VB Gets Set for Maryland Invite

SCOUTING THE TERPS
- Maryland won the Villanova Classic with victories over the Wildcats, New Hampshire, and Robert Morris last weekend.
- Adreene Elliot was named MVP of the tournament after hitting .353 with 26 kills in the 3-0 weekend.
- The Terps return 81.5 percent of their offense from their 2011 squad and have added depth that should help them improve a 10th place ACC finish last season.
SCOUTING THE BUCKEYES
- Ohio State shockingly fell from the #24 spot in the polls after a 2-1 opening weekend. It's only defeat was to the hands of #20 Oregon in five sets.
- The Buckeyes are coming off a Sweet 16 appearance in 2011 and return five starters from that squad.
- Senior Emily Danks is OSU's standout player, a 2011 All-America honorable mention who is averaging 3.82 kills in three matches thus far.
SCOUTING THE BEARCATS
- Binghamton went 1-3 last weekend at the BC Invite. The Bearcats lone victory was against Fordham to conclude the tournament.
- Iva Partaleva paces the offense, averaging 4.00 kills per set, while Xiomara Ortiz anchors the defense posting 5.00 digs per frame.
MANTHORPE TABBED AS POTW
Sophomore Shelbey Manthorpe was named BIG EAST Player of the Week on Aug. 27 after continuing to make triple-doubles look like a routine feat at the JMU Classic. Her fifth of her career came in the season opener against Appalachian State with 11 kills, 34 assists, and 18 digs. She remains the only player in school history to record the achievement. The setter became just the third player in school history to achieve the league accolade, joining Alyssa Warren and Meghan Matusiak.
WARREN KEEPS ON DIGGING
Junior Alyssa Warren started 2012 in style, picking up 37 digs against Appalachian State. The total marks the third highest single-match mark in program history.
BEST START SINCE...
Seton Hall won its first two matches of the season for the first time since 2008. The last time the Pirates began as season 3-0 was 2003 when they won four straight.
FAB FROSH
Freshmen Molly Grammer and Amanda Hansen stepped into the starting lineup at the JMU Classic and made an immediate impact. Grammer had a pair of double-figure kill matches, including a 14-kill outburst against the Dukes. Hansen averaged 1.88 blocks per set in the opening two contests and also broke out for 10 kills and six rejections in the nightcap.
