Volleyball To Host Invitational

SCOUTING THE SEAWOLVES
- Stony Brook has won three straight after starting the season 1-6. The most recently played Fordham, Cornell, and Bucknell.
- The Seawolves are a solid defensive team, averaging 14.6 digs per set.
- Freshman outside hitter Melissa Rigo was named America East Freshman of the Week for the third straight time on Monday. She currently leads the conference in kills (4.33/s) and aces (0.43/s), and has 105 digs.
SCOUTING THE BEARS
- Morgan State is still in search of its first win of the season.
- Freshman outside hitter Arianna Hayden earned All-Tournament Team honors at the Marriott Greyhound Challenge after totaling 31 kills and 19 digs in three matches.
PIRATES GOING STREAKING
Seton Hall has won six straight matches for the first time since the 2007 season.
BLOCK PARTY
The Pirates enter the Seton Hall Invitational ranked second in the BIG EAST in block average per set. In fact Seton Hall's 89 total blocks lead the conference.
10TH AVENUE "DeVRIES" OUT
Senior Morgan DeVries had a strong weekend at the Carmichael Invitational last weekend, posting six blocks against Hartford and adding seven more in a win over URI. For the weekend, the middle blocker averaged 1.36 blocks per set.
BALANCING ACT
SHU continues to get contributions from many players in their successful start to the season. Sophomore Stacey Manthorpe was named MVP of the Carmichael Invitational after leading the team in kills in all three matches. Sophomore Shelbey Manthorpe and freshman Molly Grammer also had strong weekends, and earned spots on the All-Tournament Team.
MOVING ON UP
Junior Alyssa Warren is now in sole possession of third place on the career dig list with 1,282 in two-plus seasons. If she continues on her current pace, she should move into second ahead of Jessica Pompei, who posted 1,496 digs, before the end of the season.
BEST START SINCE...
Seton Hall's 9-1 start is the best since the program began the 1996 season 10-0. In addition, the Pirates won their first two matches of the season for the first time since 2008.
ROAD WARRIORS
With their win at Hofstra on Tuesday, the Pirates are 4-0 in true road games for the first time since the 1992. The Pirates started 5-0 away from home.
DIG PINK
For the fourth consecutive season, Seton Hall will host its annual Dig Pink Match when they welcome Rutgers to Walsh Gym on October 19. There will be auctions and raffles taking place to raise money for the Side Out Foundation in support of breast cancer research. Donations can also be made by visiting www.side-out.org.
