SETON HALL STATUS
Seton Hall played some of its finest volleyball last weekend. The Pirates won two of three matches over a 72-hour span, with their lone loss coming of the five-set variety to BIG EAST powerhouse Marquette. In that match, Shelbey Manthorpe tallied her eighth triple-double of the season. Four Pirates reached double-figures in kills, while five had at least 10 digs. It was the first time this season that Seton Hall lost despite out-hitting its opponent. The Pirates connected on a .285 attack percentage, while the Golden Eagles finished at .261. On Saturday, the Pirates upset BIG EAST preseason favorite Creighton, 3-1. Shelbey Manthorpe nearly had a quadruple-double. Her sister Stacey led Seton Hall with 15 kills. Alyssa Warren led all players with 29 digs in the surprise win. On Sunday, the Pirates downed DePaul, 3-1, with Shelbey Manthorpenotching another triple-double. Seton Hall's last two matches, against Creighton and DePaul, are only the third and fourth time this season that the Pirates won despite losing the first set.
Seton Hall will finish the season against St. John's on Friday. If the Pirates win, they'll clinch their third straight winning season.
SENIOR NIGHT
Seton Hall will celebrate its lone senior Alyssa Warrenon Senior Night, Nov. 22. The Pirates will honor the libero in a special post-match ceremony. Warren, arguably the greatest libero in Seton Hall history, is the Pirates' all-time digs leader and the only Pirate to be named BIG EAST Libero of the Year. She is currently leading the BIG EAST in digs per set for the second straight season.
BIG EAST PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Junior Shelbey Manthorpewas named BIG EAST Player of the Week for the second time in her career on Nov. 18. The Pirates' setter had two triple-doubles and a near quadruple-double in three matches last weekend. Manthorpe was instrumental in helping the Pirates to an upset victory over Creighton and a win over DePaul. Seton Hall nearly upset first-place Marquette, losing to the Golden Eagles in five sets.
SCHROEDER HONORED
Freshman Dani Schroeder earned the first BIG EAST weekly honors of her career when she was named to the Weekly Honor Roll on Nov. 18. The outside hitter recorded at least eight kills in all three matches, including a career-high 17 kills vs. Marquette.
CAGING CREIGHTON
Seton Hall recorded its best win of the 2013 season when it defeated preseason BIG EAST favorite Creighton, 3-1 on Nov. 16. The victory avenged a sweep at the hands of the Bluejays in Omaha on Nov. 3. Creighton entered its match with the Pirates on Nov. 16 ranked #10 in the latest NCAA RPI rankings.
SURPRISING MARQUETTE
The Pirates turned in arguably its best performance of the 2013 season in a five-set loss to first-place Marquette on Nov. 15. The Golden Eagles are running away with the BIG EAST, but the Pirates pushed them to five sets, losing 15-11 in the final frame. It was the first time this season that the Pirates lost despite out-hitting their opponent.
RETURN TO SENDER
Junior Ashani Rubincontinues to establish herself as one of the best blockers in the BIG EAST. During Seton Hall's upset of Creighton, she blocked a career-high 11 attacks. The next day, she tallied a career-high nine kills to go with eight blocks, narrowly missing her first career double-double.
DOWNING DEPAUL
Seton Hall improved to a perfect 9-0 all-time against the Blue Demons with a 3-2 victory in Chicago on Nov. 10. The Pirates also snapped a four-match BIG EAST losing streak with the win. Shelbey Manthorpe missed a triple-double by just one dig, finishing with 40 assists, 11 kills and nine digs. Stacey Manthorpehad 14 kills and 14 digs.
PIRATES FALL AT CREIGHTON
Shelbey Manthorpe tallied her team-leading 17th double-double of the season, but it wasn't enough as Seton Hall lost at Creighton, 3-0 (18-25, 20-25, 18-25), on Nov 3. It was the first-ever meeting between the teams, and subsequently, the Pirates first trip to Omaha. Manthorpe finished with a team-high 21 assists and 10 digs. Senior Alyssa Warren (Joliet, Ill.) again led the Pirates with 16 digs, while sophomore Molly Grammer(Center Valley, Pa.) led the Seton Hall offense with nine kills.
BOUNCING BACK
Seton Hall got its overall record back to .500 at 12-12 with an easy four-set victory at NJIT on Oct. 30. Thirteen players saw action and six players recorded at least six kills in a balanced offensive attack. Junior Jamie Froning recorded a career-high six kills with just one attack error, while Sam Duncannotched career-highs with six assists and five digs.
DEVINE DEFENSE
In a match featuring the top two defensive teams in the BIG EAST, Seton Hall and Xavier combined for 224 digs. Seton Hall had 114 digs, the most in nearly a year, and five players recorded at least 15. Alyssa Warren, the BIG EAST leader in digs per set, recorded a season-high 32 digs in the match. Shelbey Manthorpe recorded a career-high 29 digs, while Stacey Manthorpehad a season-high 20 digs.
ROAD WARRIORS
The Pirates have won five of their last seven away matches, including crucial BIG EAST wins at Georgetown, Villanova and DePaul. Seton Hall avenged a sweep at the hands of the Hoyas with a dramatic five-set win in Washington on Oct. 18. The following night, the Pirates completed a season sweep of Villanova with a four-set win in Pennsylvania.
STONING THE SEAWOLVES
Stony Brook entered the match having won six of their last seven, but the Pirates completed a three-set sweep of the Seawolves on Oct. 22. Stacey Manthorpehad 16 kills to lead the Pirates' offense.
STACEY TAKING OFFENCE
Stacey Manthorpehas recently taken her offensive game to a higher level. Recently named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll, she has recorded at least 13 kills in five of the last six matches.
STACEY NETS HONOR ROLL
Junior Stacey Manthorpewas named to the BIG EAST Women's Volleyball Weekly Honor Roll on Oct. 21. Manthorpe was instrumental in leading Seton Hall to a perfect 3-0 record last week including crucial BIG EAST wins at Georgetown and Villanova. She recorded a double-double with a team-high 17 kills to go with 15 digs and a season-high seven blocks in a five-set victory at Georgetown. At Villanova, she recorded another double-double, matching her career-high with 18 kills and 15 digs. She also had an impressive .359 attack percentage.
EFFICIENT ATTACK
In Seton Hall's sweep of Stony Brook, the Pirates' offense attacked at a .372 percentage, the second-highest total of the season. Among the superlative performers were Amanda Hansen, who had 11 kills, no errors and a .688 attack percentage, and Stacey Manthorpe, who had 16 kills, just two errors, and a .538 attack percentage. In Seton Hall's dominant 25-10 third set, the Pirates successfully attacked at a staggering .433 clip.
SETTING THE TONE
Setter Shelbey Manthorpehas recently seen her assist per set average skyrocket, posting 48 assists at Georgetown and 47 assists at Villanova. Currently, she ranks ninth in the BIG EAST with an assist per set average at 8.72.
STREAK STOPPERS
With a win in Brooklyn on Oct. 16, Seton Hall snapped LIU's 19-match home win streak. The Blackbirds had won seven straight overall and sported a perfect 8-0 record at home this season. Furthermore, LIU hadn't lost a set in the month of October until the Pirates completed a three-set sweep.
FIRST BIG EAST WIN
Seton Hall defeated Villanova in a five-set marathon on Oct. 11 for its first BIG EAST Conference victory of the season. Four Pirates recorded at least 10 kills and four more picked up at least 10 digs. Shelbey Manthorpenotched her sixth triple-double of the season.
SHELBEY'S HONOR ROLL
Junior Shelbey Manthorpepicked up her second BIG EAST Honor Roll distinction of the season on Oct. 14. The week prior, she helped Seton Hall to a 2-1 record and had a triple-double with season-highs of 51 assists and 14 kills, to go with 18 digs in a victory over Villanova.
FAB FROSH
A pair of Seton Hall freshmen had impressive matches vs. Villanova. Tessa Fourniertallied a career-high 16 digs, while Dani Schroeder matched a career-high with 11 kills with only four attack errors.
BOUNCE BACK WIN
Seton Hall snapped a brief three-match losing streak with a convincing victory over Hofstra in its home opener on Oct. 8. Despite falling behind 19-13 in set one, the Pirates rallied to sweep the Pride. Shelbey Manthorpehad 24 assists, 11 digs, seven kills, four blocks and a team-best .400 attack percentage.
HOME OPENER
With Seton Hall's victory over Hofstra on Oct. 8, the Pirates improved to 23-4 all-time in home openers, including eight straight victories.
ALL-TIME LEADER
With 27 digs vs. Columbia on Sept. 21, senior Alyssa Warren became Seton Hall's all-time digs leader. Her 27 digs gave her 1,954 for her illustrious career, moving ahead of former Seton Hall standout and current assistant coach Allie Matters, who graduated with 1,945 career digs.
CAVALIER CLASSIC
Seton Hall played well in its final tune-up before the start of BIG EAST play. The Pirates won two of their three matches at the Cavalier Classic. They lost to Virginia in four sets (25-19, 16-25, 21-25, 20-25), but swept William & Mary (25-11, 25-14, 25-8) and rallied to defeat Columbia in five sets (17-25, 22-25, 25-19, 25-17, 15-11).
SHELBEY HONOR ROLL
Junior Shelbey Manthorpewas named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll on Sept. 23 for leading Seton Hall to three wins in four matches the week prior. She tallied two triple-doubles and one double-double during that stretch.
ALL-TOURNAMENT SISTERS
For their efforts at the Cavalier Classic, Sept. 20-21, sisters Shelbey and Stacey Manthorpewere named to the All-Tournament Team. It's the third All-Tournament Team designation for Shelbey so far this season.
SEKULOVA RETURNS
Junior Simona Sekulovamade her 2013 season debut at Virginia on Sept. 20. She led Seton Hall with 10 kills to go with six digs. As she continues to recover from a knee injury, she will be limited in the number of matches she plays.
GOING THE DISTANCE
Seton Hall is no stranger to long matches. Eleven of the Pirates' 30 matches so far this season have gone five sets. The Hall is 6-5 in those matches. Most recently, Seton Hall fell to first-place Marquette, 3-2.
COMEBACK KIDS
Seton Hall dropped the first two sets vs. Columbia, but rallied and defeated the Lions, 3-2 (17-25, 22-25, 25-19, 25-17, 15-11) in the finale of the Cavalier Classic. The last time the Pirates won despite losing the first two sets was on Nov. 12, 2011 vs. St. John's.
BLOCK PARTY
Ashani Rubinhas been a force defensively so far in 2013. The junior leads the Pirates and ranks fourth in the BIG EAST with 1.26 blocks per set.
TAMING THE TIGERS
Seton Hall earned its second straight victory over a New Jersey opponent and its first sweep of the season with a 3-0 win at Princeton on Sept. 17. The Pirates dominated holding the Tigers to just 15 and 16 points respectively in the first two sets. Defense was the key as four Pirates finished in double-figures in digs and the team combined for 24 blocks.
NEW CONFERENCE, SAME RESULT
Seton Hall edged their long-time, in-state rival Rutgers, 3-2, on Sept. 11. It was their first meeting as non-conference opponents since 1994. The Pirates won the first two sets, but had to rally in set five, down 13-11, to ensure the victory. Alyssa Warren had a match-high 22 digs. Stacey Manthorpe and Ashani Rubincombined for the final five Pirates' points of the match.
SHELBEY ALL-TOURNAMENT AGAIN
Shelbey Manthorpewas named to the Yale University All-Tournament Team. The junior had a triple-double vs. Colgate in the opener and a double-double at Yale.
TRIPLE-DOUBLES GALORE
Junior Shelbey Manthorperecorded her seventh triple-double of the season vs. Butler on Oct. 25. She now has 19 in her impressive career. Last year, Manthorpe led the nation with eight triple-doubles. Prior to her arrival in South Orange, no player in SHU history had recorded a single triple-double.
EFFICIENCY MATTERS
Seton Hall is 14-1 this season when it has a higher attack percentage than its opponent. The Pirates are 1-14 when their opponent has a higher attack percentage. Shelbey Manthorpeis currently leading the team with a .283 attack percentage, which ranks her just outside the top-10 in the BIG EAST Conference.
SAME OLD TRICKS
The reigning BIG EAST Libero of the Year is again leading Seton Hall and the BIG EAST Conference in digs and digs per set, averaging 5.14 digs per set. She was the first Libero of the Year in Seton Hall history and is vying to be a repeat winner.
U.S. MILITARY ACADEMY TOURNAMENT
Seton Hall opened the 2013 season at the U.S. Military Academy Tournament. The Pirates went 1-2 with a victory over Army and losses to Alabama and Washington State. All three matches were close. Washington State won the event, defeating Alabama in the championship game.
SHELBEY ALL-TOURNAMENT
Sophomore Shelbey Manthorpewas the lone Seton Hall representative on the U.S. Military Academy All-Tournament Team. She averaged 8.43 assists, 2.93 digs and 1.57 kills per set during the event.

Alyssa Warren and Shelbey Manthorpewere named 2013 Seton Hall women's volleyball team captains.
SISTER ACT
Stacey Manthorpe and Shelbey Manthorpecontinue to be a versatile force on the court for Seton Hall. The twins were the Pirates' top two players in double-doubles last season and have already combined for 90 in their career.
PRESEASON POLL
Seton Hall was picked fourth in this year's BIG EAST Preseason Coaches' Poll. Last season, the Pirates finished ninth. The new-look BIG EAST features nine teams that sponsor volleyball.
MANTHORPE PRESEASON ALL-BIG EAST
For a second straight season, Shelbey Manthorpeearned Preseason All-BIG EAST honors. The setter finished the 2012 season with a team-best 19 double-doubles, including eight triple-doubles, which led the nation.
NINE-TEAM CONFERENCE
Seton Hall will begin play in the new-look, nine-team BIG EAST Conference on Friday, Sept. 27 when they travel to St. John's. The Pirates will play 16 conference games, facing their eight opponents both at home and on the road. Volleyball powerhouse Creighton, as well as Butler and Xavier, join the conference, while Louisville, USF, Cincinnati, Connecticut, Pittsburgh, Rutgers, Notre Dame and Syracuse all depart.
NEW BIG EAST CHAMPIONSHIP
The 2013 BIG EAST Volleyball Championship will be conducted Nov. 29-30 in Omaha, Neb. The top four teams, based on regular-season conference records, will qualify for the event and will be seeded according to their finish in the league standings. The 32nd annual championship will be hosted by Creighton at DJ Sokol Arena. The champion receives the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Women's Volleyball Championship.
