The "So You Want To Be A Coach" three-day workshop will be held in conjunction with the annual WBCA National Convention, which will take place April 5-7, at the NCAA Division I Women's Basketball Final Four in New Orleans, La.
"I was very excited to hear I was accepted to the "So You Want To Be A Coach" program," Morris said. "This is such a well-respected program, and I feel like this will be a great experience and a big boost to the start of my career. I am truly appreciative of the opportunity and hope to make the most of it."
This year's applicant pool was one of the largest and most impressive classes in the program's history. In order to be considered for selection, candidates must have exhausted their final year of basketball eligibility or have graduated within the last year.
Participants are chosen based on their academics, contributions to women's basketball on and off the court, professional resume and a written recommendation from their head coach.
"It is a great honor for Brittany Morris to be accepted to the WBCA "So You Want to be a Coach" program," Seton Hall head women's basketball coach Anne Donovan said. "Brittany has expressed interest in coaching from an early age and her father, Arnie, is a well known and highly respected AAU coach in North Carolina. As one of just 50 accepted into this program, Brittany has already shown her value and potential. We are very proud of her and wish her well as she takes this step."
The main objective of the program is to assist female college basketball players who are interested in pursuing a career in coaching women's basketball by increasing their awareness of the skills and competencies required to secure a coaching position.
The workshop also enables coaching candidates to network with women's basketball coaches and administrators and acquire a sense of the existing talent pool of women's basketball players who are interested in pursuing coaching opportunities.
A number of current assistant and head women's basketball coaches will be speaking at this year's event including Oklahoma State assistant coach Richard Henderson, Penn State head coach Coquese Washington, Nebraska assistant coach Shimmy Gray-Miller, University of Alabama-Birmingham head coach Audra Smith and Duke head coach Joanne P. McCallie.
As a senior Morris is enjoying the best season of her collegiate career. She is leading Seton Hall and ranks 21st in the BIG EAST with 13.1 points per game. With a career-high six three-pointers a USF on Feb. 16, she broke the school record for three-pointers in a career and her 64 three-point field goals this season are the second-highest single-season total in program history.
Morris was named to the BIG EAST Conference Women's Basketball Weekly Honor Roll for the first time in her career on Jan. 28, and has scored 20 or more points in five games this season, including a career-high 27 points in a 72-56 victory over Providence on Feb. 20.
Seton Hall will host St. John's University in its regular season finale on Saturday, March 2, at Walsh Gymnasium in South Orange, N.J., at 9 p.m.
