ABOUT THE MATCHUP Seton Hall and Cincinnati will face off in the first round of the 2013 BIG EAST Championship on Friday afternoon at the XL Center in Hartford, Conn., at 4 p.m. It is the ninth all-time meeting between the two programs but the first ever in the postseason. The series is tied 4-4, with Seton Hall claiming two of the last three games, including a 64-56 victory at Cincinnati earlier this season.
SETON HALL STATUS Seton Hall closed out the regular season on a high note, upsetting St. John's, 60-51, on Senior Night at Walsh Gymnasium. The Pirates won two of their last four regular season games and senior Brittany Morris scored at least 20 points in four of the last five games, including a career-high 28 points in the win over the Red Storm. SHU finished with a 9-7 home record but is 0-2 in neutral floor contests this year.
CINCINNATI STATUS Cincinnati finished the end of the season on a hot streak, with all four of the Bearcats' conference wins coming over the final six games of the season, including a stretch of three-straight that included a victory over Rutgers. Cincinnati lost its regular season finale at Marquette, 72-58, after beating the Golden Eagles, 54-52, back on Feb. 13. Dayeesha Hollins is the only player averaging double figures at 15.7 points per game.

WHEN LAST THEY MET... Seton Hall won the regular season meeting at Cincinnati, 64-56, all the way back on Jan. 9, in Cincinnati, Ohio. Redshirt sophomore Ka-Deidre Simmons scored a team-high 18 points with three assists and seven rebounds in that win, with senior Brittany Morris (16 points) and senior Alexandra Maseko (10 points) also scoring in double figures. Dayeesha Hollins led the Bearcats with 23 points, shooting 6-for-9 from three-point range. Hollins hit just 27 threes all season but six of them came in the first meeting with Seton Hall.
LURKING DOWN THE ROAD The winner of Friday afternoon's first round game between Cincinnati and Seton Hall will advance to face No. 5 seed St. John's in the second round on Saturday at 12 p.m., with the winner of that game faced fourth-seeded Louisville in the quarterfinals on Sunday at 12 p.m. Seton Hall split its regular season series with St. John's, falling to the Red Storm 72-46 on Jan. 12, and winning 60-51 in March 2. The Pirates fell at Louisville in the team's only meeting this season, 72-62, on Feb. 27, in Louisville.
MORRIS NAMED TO SECOND BIG EAST HONOR ROLL For the second time this season senior guard Brittany Morris was named to the BIG EAST Conference Weekly Honor Roll. She averaged 24.0 points per game in a 1-1 week for Seton Hall, scoring 20 points in a 72-62 loss at Louisville on Feb. 27, and erupting for a career-high 28 points behind five three-pointers in a 60-51 victory over St. John's in the regular season finale on March 2.
REACHING NEW HEIGHTS Seton Hall wrapped up regular season action with a 10-19 overall record and a 5-11 record in the BIG EAST, reaching new highs in season and BIG EAST win totals under head coach Anne Donovan. The Pirates' five conference wins are the most since the 2007 season when they were 9-7 in the BIG EAST and the 10 overall victories are the most for Seton Hall since 2008-09; SHU finished 17-14 that year.
EXACTING REVENGE With its 60-51 victory over St. John's in the regular season finale on March 2, Seton Hall avenged a 72-46 loss to the Red Storm earlier this season and snapped a 10-game losing streak to St. John's dating back to the 2007 season. The Pirates ended long winless streaks against Rutgers and St. John's this season, beating both schools during conference play in the same season for the first time since 2002.
BIG EAST THREES All season the ability to shoot the three pointer has been an important staple in Seton Hall's offensive attack but in conference play the Pirates have been even more effective from three. Seton Hall ranks third in the BIG EAST in conference three-point shooting, making 33.0 percent (93-of-282) of its three-point shots against conference foes for an average of 5.8 threes per game. Senior Brittany Morris is tied for second in the conference in BIG EAST games by making 2.9 three pointers per game.
HITTING ON 20 With a career-high 28 points against St. John's on March 2, senior Brittany Morris reached the 20-point plateau for the sixth time this season and the fourth time over the last five games. She scored 23 points at USF on Feb. 16, 27 in a win over Providence on Feb. 20 and 20 at Louisville on Feb. 27. Morris is averaging 19.6 points per game over the last five games, well above her team-leading average of 13.6 ppg.
LEADING AT THE HALF Getting off to a good start has been important for the Pirates' ability to come away with a win as Seton Hall is 9-1 when taking a lead into the half but just 1-18 when it trails after 20 minutes.
PRESENCE ON THE BOARDS Over the past four games senior Breanna Jones has been one of Seton Hall's top rebounders. She is averaging 22.8 minutes per game over the last four contests, making three starts and Jones set a new career high in rebounding in back-to-back games with six boards at Louisville on Feb. 27, and seven against St. John's on March 2. She is averaging 4.5 rebounds per game over that stretch.
NEW CAREER-HIGH FOR BROWN Sophomore guard Alexis Brown scored a career-high 14 points at Louisville on Feb. 27. She tied her career-high with six made field goals and also knocked down the first three-pointer of her career. Brown has scored in double figures six times this season and ranks fourth on the team in scoring at 5.5 points per game.
SINGLE-SEASON MARKS Redshirt sophomore Ka-Deidre Simmons is close to cracking the Seton Hall single-season top-10 list in a pair of statistical categories. With a team-leading 113 assists, she sits just six shy of moving into a tie for the 10th-best single-season mark in school history. Simmons also leads the Pirates with 59 steals, needing just two more to tie for the 10th most in one year.
SO YOU WANT TO BE A COACH Senior Brittany Morris has been selected to participate in the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) "So You Want To Be A Coach" program, which will be held in conjunction with the WBCA's annual national convention in New Orleans, La., at the Final Four. Morris was one of 50 selected to attend the convention out of one of the deepest and most competitive applicant pools in the program's history. The mission of the "So You Want To Be A Coach" program is to assist female college basketball players who are interested in pursuing a career in coaching women's basketball.
START IT UP Senior Breanna Jones made her first start of the season and the second start of her career when she was slotted in at forward against No. 3 Connecticut on Feb. 23. Jones, who has played in 53-career contests has appeared in all but one game this season.
MORRIS BREAKS THREE-POINT RECORD Senior guard Brittany Morris is the new Seton Hall career three-point leader with 173 triples over her three-plus seasons as a Pirate. She passed Ebonie Williams (‘07-10) and Jodi Brooks (‘90-'94) old mark of 156-career threes by draining a career-high six three pointers at USF on Feb. 16, vaulting from third to first in school history. She leads Seton Hall with 69 threes so far this season, which is tied for the highest single-season mark in school history.
CAREER DAY Seton Hall's two leading scorers, senior Brittany Morris and redshirt sophomore Ka-Deidre Simmons both posted then career-best scoring outings when the Pirates defeated Providence, 72-56, on Feb. 20. Morris poured in 27 points against the Friars, besting her old career-high of 26 points, behind 10 field goals and six three pointers. Simmons scored 21 points for her first-career 20-point game, shooting a blistering 8-for-9 (88.9 percent) from the field.
1,000 IN THE CROSS-HAIRS With 27 points against Providence on Feb. 20, senior Brittany Morris passed 900 points for her career and is now closing in on 1,000. With 966 career-points she needs 34 more to become the 20th player in Seton Hall history to reach the 1,000-point plateau. She is just 24 points shy of tying Ashley Bush (‘01-'05) for 20th-place in school history with 990-career points. LIGHTS OUT Behind the most efficient shooting performance for a Seton Hall player this season, redshirt sophomore Ka-Deidre Simmons scored a career-high 21 points in the Pirates' win over Providence on Feb. 20. Simmons shot 8-for-9 from the field in the win with her 88.9 percent shooting going down as the best individual performance of the season for The Hall.
OFFENSIVE EFFICIENCY Considering several of Seton Hall's best individual offensive performances of the season came in the win over Providence on Feb. 20, it also makes sense that as a team the Pirates displayed their most efficient offensive game of the year. Seton Hall shot a season-high 56.5 percent (26-for-46) from the field and also recorded its best half of the season, knocking down 60.0 percent (12-for-20) of its baskets in the second-half alone. The Pirates outrebounded the Friars by a +16 margin, grabbing a season-high 30 defensive rebounds.
MOST WINS FOR DONOVAN After winning eight games in each of her first two seasons at Seton Hall, head coach Anne Donovan passed that mark and picked up her ninth win of the season with the Pirates' 72-56 victory over Providence on Feb. 20. In her third season as the Pirates' head coach Donovan has recorded new personal bests with five BIG EAST victories and 10 overall wins.
