SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – Seton Hall University senior guard Brittany Morris (Raleigh, N.C.) was named Second-Team All-Metropolitan, it was announced by the Met Basketball Writers Association. Morris will be honored on Monday, April 15, at the 80th NIT/MBWA Haggerty Awards Dinner to be held at the Westchester Marriott in Tarrytown, N.Y.
Morris, who turned in the most impressive long-distance shooting season in school history, is the second Seton Hall women’s basketball player in as many years to be named Second-Team All-Metropolitan; Jasmine Crew received the accolade just last season.
Morris led Seton Hall with 13.7 points per game this season and drained a single-season school record 74 three-point field goals. She graduates as the Pirates’ all-time leader in three-pointers with 178 and three-point field goal attempts, firing 571 threes in her four-year career.
Her 997-career points rank 20th in program history and 426 of those points came during her stellar senior season that also led to her earning Second-Team All-BIG EAST Conference honors for the first time in her career.
She started at guard in all 31 games last season averaging 33.0 minutes per game, the 10th-highest rate in the conference, and was twice named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll, the first time on Jan. 28, and again on March 5.
Morris led Seton Hall in scoring 19 times last season, including six games with at least 20 points. She broke the SHU all-time three-point record in style, by nailing a career-high six treys on the way to 23 points at USF on Feb. 16, a performance that began a stretch of four 20-point games over a span of just five contests.
With a then career-high 27 points behind six more three pointers, Morris led Seton Hall to a 72-56 win over Providence College on Feb. 20. She topped that by turning in arguably her best game in a Seton Hall uniform as she torched St. John’s University for 28 points, knocking down five triples, in a 60-51 victory over the Red Storm in the Pirates regular season finale on Senior Day on March 2.
Morris scored in double figures in both of the Pirates’ BIG EAST Tournament games, which included a team-high 18 points in the first round victory over Cincinnati.
By the time her tremendous season was said and done she ranked 18th in the BIG EAST in scoring (13.7 ppg) but 14th in the league in conference-only scoring with 14.8 ppg. Morris finished 52nd in NCAA Division I in three-pointers per game with 2.39, hitting at least three triples 14 times.
Seton Hall finished the 2012-13 season with a 12-20 overall record and a 5-11 mark in the BIG EAST. The five conference wins were the most for the Pirates since the 2007 campaign and the Pirates also picked up their first postseason victory since 2009.
