SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – After introducing three newcomers for the 2013 season in late January, Seton Hall volleyball head coach Allison Yaeger has announced another addition for next year as California native Hailey Hetzer will join the Pirates in the fall as well.
Hetzer hails from San Pedro and has spent the last three years anchoring the right side for Palos Verdes Peninsula High School and two of the top club programs in the Los Angeles area. The versatile 5-foot-10 outside hitter also served as a defensive specialist at times for PVPHS, helping the team advance to the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) playoffs this past season.
“I am very excited to announce the addition of Hailey to our 2013 roster,” said Yaeger. “She will add great depth to our pin hitters, specializing on the right side of the court. Hailey has excellent ball control so we can throw her into our defensive specialist/libero mix as well.”
On the club level, Hetzer most recently suited up for Club Troy, a premier California program that routinely churns out Division I student-athletes. At the 2012 Junior Olympics in Columbus, Ohio, she led the team with 59 kills and earned the squad’s Most Outstanding Offensive Player Award. Prior to joining Club Troy, she was captain of the Long Beach Mizuno squad where also won the team award in recognition of her attacking prowess in 2011.
“Hailey comes from a great volleyball background and her competitiveness and leadership will be a huge asset for this program,” continued Yaeger. "I really look forward to the opportunity of working with Hailey for the next four years."
The new addition rounds out an impressive incoming class as Coach Yaeger and assistant coach Allie Matters have made significant recruiting inroads in some of the most talent-rich areas of the country in their short time at the helm for the Pirates.
Hetzer joins a heralded group that already included fellow Golden State product Tessa Fournier and Chicago-area standouts Jasmine King and Dani Schroeder, and promises to provide added depth on both sides of the ball in 2013.
