SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – The Seton Hall University women’s basketball team has inked three student-athletes to national letters of intent for the 2013-14 season it was announced Tuesday by head women’s basketball coach Anthony Bozzella.
Guard Kathleen Egan (Aberdeen, N.J. – St. John Vianney), forward Teresa Kucera (Schwäbisch Hall, Germany – Theodor-Heuss Gymnasium) and guard Jordan Mosley (Orlando, Fla. – La Salle/Timber Creek) will be joining the Pirates this fall as a part of Bozzella’s inaugural recruiting class at Seton Hall.
“I’m very excited with our first recruiting class at Seton Hall, I think the staff has put together a versatile group of young ladies,” Bozzella said. “All three are tremendous student-athletes who will be outstanding representatives of Seton Hall University. Starting as late as we did, to get three players with this talent level is very exciting and will have a big impact on our program in the future.”
Egan enjoyed a highly successful two seasons as a combo guard-forward for St. John Vianney High School in Holmdel, N.J., averaging 12.3 points, 5.6 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 3.6 steals per game during her junior campaign in 2011-12.
“Kat Egan was one of, if not the top player, in South Jersey before she suffered an injury and when she returns to full strength I know she will be a very good player here,” Bozzella said. “I had a commitment from her at Iona, and I know she fielded a lot of offers from other schools. For her to come here showed a lot of faith in me and my staff and I am very appreciative.”
Egan was named to the Newark Star-Ledger Second-Team All-Monmouth County and also received Second-Team All-Shore accolades from the Asbury Park Press and HoopGroup.com.
In her first two seasons at St. John Vianney she helped lead the team to identical 28-4 overall records and consecutive Non-Public A State Championships in addition to a second-place finish in the Tournament of Champions in 2010, and a third-place showing in 2011. During her junior season St. John Vianney captured another division title, finishing with a 22-8 overall mark and placing second in the NJSIAA state tournament.
Kucera is a talented combo guard/forward out of Germany with extensive international experience, playing for highly competitive national and youth teams in Schwäbisch Hall and Nӧrdlingen, Germany.
“Teresa has all of the skill and all of the intelligence she needs to become an outstanding player at our level,” Bozzella said. “I think she is going to be a contributor as a freshman, but as she improves and gains experience I believe she has the ability to be an All-Conference player in the future. I’m looking forward to having the opportunity to coach her.”
In 2009 Kucera was selected to compete for the German National Women’s U-16 Team, where she practiced and worked out for the A-European Championship. She competed for the German Junior Women’s League U17 team in Ludwigsburg, averaging 30 minutes and 16 points per game. Her international experience also included participation in the B-European Championship with the German U16 Team in 2010, where they finished fifth.
In Nӧrdlingen, Kucera suited up for the Junior Women’s U17 team in 2010-11, averaging 35 minutes and 24.1 points per game, also receiving experience practicing and playing with the club’s 1st League Women’s Team. During the 2011-12 season she averaged 18.1 ppg with the 3rd Women’s German League for the second team in Nӧrdlingen and practiced with the Heli Girls First-Team.
Mosley is transferring to Seton Hall from La Salle University and will sit out the 2013-14 season due to NCAA transfer requirements.
“Jordan Mosley is a player I originally recruited out of high school; she is a great defender, smart basketball player and an outstanding person,” Bozzella said. “I think she saw when I became the head coach here at our level she realized she could really flourish in our system. To get her to come here as my first signed recruit is really exciting.”
Mosley appeared in 29 games and made 24 starts for the Explorers during the 2012-13 season, averaging 6.3 points, 3.2 rebounds and 29.1 minutes per game. She scored in double figures in nine games, reaching her season high of 13 points on two occasions. Mosley also enjoyed extensive playing time during her freshman campaign in 2011-12, seeing action in all 31 games with five starts to average 5.2 points per game including a career-best 16 points against Albany and Florida.
Mosley played prep basketball at Timber Creek High School in Orland, Fla., where she was ranked as a top-100 guard and helped lead her team to a Metro Conference Championship. She was a two-time McDonalds All-American nominee and participated at Nike Nationals in July 2010. Mosley was a four-time All-Metro Conference Team selection and was named to the Florida Athletic Coaches’ Association All-State team.
