SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – Head Coach Allison Yaeger announced the 2013 Seton Hall volleyball schedule on Tuesday. The Pirates will play 31 matches overall and 16 matches as part of the new-look BIG EAST Conference. Nine of the 10 schools in the newly-configured BIG EAST Conference sponsor women’s volleyball, so each school will play the eight others twice, home and away. Providence is the lone BIG EAST school without a women’s volleyball program. Seton Hall’s home BIG EAST schedule is back-loaded as the Pirates will play their final four matches of the regular season at Walsh Gym, finishing with St. John’s on Friday, Nov. 22. “We’ve put together a competitive slate of non-conference opponents that will nicely complement our BIG EAST schedule,” Yaeger said. “It will be an exciting year competing in the new-look BIG EAST. We’re looking forward to getting started.” The Pirates will open the 2013 campaign with a trio of non-conference tournaments on the road. Seton Hall will begin the season with three matches at the U.S. Military Academy Tournament, August 30-31. The following weekend, the Pirates will take on three more opponents as part of the Yale University Tournament in New Haven, Conn. Despite now being in separate conferences, the Seton Hall/Rutgers rivalry will continue in 2013 with a single match held in Piscataway on Sept. 11. Seton Hall will then remain on the road to face in-state rival Princeton on Sept. 17. Seton Hall will play three more matches in their final in-season tournament of the season at the University of Virginia, Sept. 20-21. As prior mentioned, Seton Hall’s BIG EAST schedule will feature home and away games with DePaul, Georgetown, Marquette, St. John’s and Villanova, as well as conference newcomers Butler, Creighton and Xavier. The Pirates will open the conference portion of their schedule at St. John’s on Friday, Sept. 27. The annual year-end BIG EAST Championship will be held in Omaha, Nebraska and hosted by Creighton University, Nov. 29-30.
