WBB to Host Anti-Bullying Program on Nov. 14

Seton Hall will host an anti-bullying program in the Richie Regan Recreation Center Fieldhouse beginning at 10 a.m., featuring keynote speaker Kaitlin Monte, as well as presentations from Seton Hall student-athletes and students. The event is open to elementary and middle school aged children, and all schools in attendance will receive complimentary tickets to the basketball game scheduled for a Noon tipoff.
Monte, the host of Mets Insider on SNY, head traffic reporter for PIX Morning News on WPIX, and the former Miss New York (2011) title holder and second runner-up at Miss America 2012, is a long-time anti-bullying advocate.
Monte has collaborated with lawmakers to push cyberbullying legislation in New York State and has presented workshops for corporate and higher education audiences. She was named the Anti-Defamation League's No Place for Hate 2012 Difference Maker of the Year and is an official spokesperson for the "No Place for Hate" campaign.
"This anti-bullying initiative is very important to me and our team, and I am eager to help educate young people about such a critical issue afflicting our society," said Seton Hall head women's basketball coach Anthony Bozzella. "If we can positively impact the life of one child this year, then I think this program will be considered a success."
In addition to the morning program, there will be an anti-bullying themed poster contest for students in attendance, with selected winners to be honored at halftime of the Seton Hall-Rider game that afternoon. There will also be Seton Hall athletic giveaways throughout the day.
The event is just the start of a year-long focus on anti-bullying for the Seton Hall women's basketball team. The Pirates will direct a majority of their community service activities this season on anti-bullying messaging, visiting schools throughout New Jersey to connect with students about the issue.
Schools interested in registering for the program should contact Seton Hall Assistant Athletics Director for Marketing and Promotions Kelly O'Neil at (973) 275-2233 or athleticsmarketing@shu.edu.
