SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. - Seton Hall senior Shelbey Manthorpe (Merion Station, Pa.) was named BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week for the second straight week on Monday. Sophomore Tessa Fournier (Redondo Beach, Calif.) was named to the Weekly Honor Roll.
Manthorpe spearheaded a spirited Pirates' effort last week that included three victories, including two on the road, which extended Seton Hall's win streak to nine matches and improved The Hall's BIG EAST record to a perfect 5-0. Manthorpe registered double-doubles in all three matches, giving her eight on the season. She nearly had a quadruple-double vs. St. John's on Wednesday, finishing with a team-high 45 assists, 12 digs, eight kills and seven blocks. On Friday, she had 33 assists and a match-high 21 digs in a sweep at Butler. On Saturday, Manthorpe registered 42 assists and 11 digs in a four-set victory at Xavier.
It's the third straight week that Shelbey has been recognized by the BIG EAST. Two weeks ago, she was named to the Weekly Honor Roll.
As a team, Seton Hall currently leads the BIG EAST in opponent attack percentage and digs per set. A huge part of the Pirates' defensive presence has been libero Tessa Fournier. The sophomore was key to last week's success as she nearly recorded her first two career double-doubles. Fournier had team-high 21 digs and eight assists vs. St. John's on Wednesday. She had a career-high 28 digs to go with eight assists on Saturday at Xavier.
Creighton's Kelli Browning was named BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week. Those joining Fournier on the Honor Roll include Butler's Belle Obert, Creighton's Jess Bird, Marquette's Nele Barber and Xavier's Aubree Smith.
Manthorpe, Fournier and the rest of the Pirates will return to action this Friday when they return to Walsh Gym to host Creighton in a match featuring the only two unbeaten teams in the BIG EAST. The match is scheduled for a 7:00 p.m. start.
