SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. - Coming off a deep run in the WNIT during his first season at The Hall, head coach Anthony Bozzella continues to raise the excitement around the women's basketball team. The Pirates welcome six newcomers to the program to complement a talented crop of returnees who contributed to one of the biggest turnarounds in Division I last season.
The Pirate Sports Network's latest feature introduces fans to each of these new student-athletes.
"I'm very excited about the freshman class," said Bozzella, who gave the Pirates their first 20-win season since 1994-95. "I think we brought in a foundation and a center for our program for many seasons to come in Jordan Molyneaux. Claire Lundberg is a fine young lady as well and will be an asset at the guard position for us. The fact that she can also learn from an experienced backcourt is important as well."
First year Pirates Aleesha Powell (Philadelphia, Pa.), who played for Bozzella at Iona, Tiffany Jones (New York, N.Y.) and Lubirdia Gordon (Mount Vernon, N.Y.) are also expected to bolster the lineup next season.
"Aleesha was an all-conference player who we are familiar with and excited to coach again," said Bozzella. As for Lubirdia, she has a tremendous upside and we like her potential a lot."
