The team held an instructional skills clinic focusing on ball handling, passing, and shooting. SHU head women's basketball coach Anthony Bozzella and the team energized the campers by awarding prizes for answering Seton Hall trivia questions correctly and for a few campers who excelled in drill work.
This marks the second-consecutive year the women's team has partnered with South Mountain, coordinating the clinic with Dave Berry and Coach Fred Ross at the YMCA.
"It was exciting to interact with the kids," said Seton Hall graduate student Ka-Deidre Simmons, who played for Coach Fred Ross when she was younger. "I wanted to give back to the YMCA and Coach Fred Ross because he took the time out to help me get better when I was younger. So I want to do the same and give back to kids in the local community," added Simmons.
Junior forward Tiffany Jones also relished working with the campers.
"I enjoyed working with the campers from the YMCA because I have a younger brother and I like to see him do well, so I want to see young kids get better," said Jones. "It also reminded me of myself when I was younger, so I just want to give back."
Seton Hall's partnership with area YMCA basketball clinics and camps is part of the Department of Athletics' H.A.L.L. Program, designed to focus on building leaders within the Seton Hall community while enhancing the quality of the student-athlete experience.
