PREVIEW
Seton Hall enters this week's matches with a perfect 2-0 BIG EAST Conference record. It will be tested however, against three opponents this week. The Pirates will host St. John's on Wednesday, before heading back on the road for Butler on Friday and Xavier on Saturday.
The streaking Pirates have won six straight matches and enter this week with a 12-3 overall record. Last week, Seton Hall swept Providence at home and defeated Villanova in four sets on the road. In the matches, Shelbey Manthorpe registered a pair of triple-doubles, bringing her season total to three and her career total to 25. No player in Seton Hall history had recorded a single triple-double prior to her arrival in South Orange in 2011. Against Providence, Manthorpe had 28 assists, 11 kills and 11 digs in a rare three-set triple-double. On Saturday, she erupted for 40 assists, 13 digs and 11 kills. For her efforts, she was recently named BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week.
Seton Hall will host St. John's on Wednesday. The Red Storm was predicted to finish fifth in the BIG EAST Coaches' Preseason Poll, one spot ahead of the Pirates. Last season, the teams split their two contests. Seton Hall lost in five sets on the road, but won in four sets in the regular season finale at Walsh Gym. St. John's enters this contest with a 12-6 record overall and a 1-2 mark through three conference games. They're coming off a sweep at the hands of Marquette on Saturday. This Friday, The Hall will travel to Butler. Butler swept its season series with the Pirates in 2013 and was predicted to finish fourth this season. Seton Hall has never won in Indianapolis. The Bulldogs have alternated wins and losses over their last seven matches and are coming off a four-set victory at Georgetown on Sunday. On Saturday, the Pirates will travel to Cincinnati for a 4:00 p.m. tilt with Xavier. The Musketeers were picked to finish third in the BIG EAST this season and received a first place vote. They too, swept the Pirates last season and are currently 8-6 overall and 1-1 in conference play. Xavier is coming off a three-set loss at Creighton on Sunday.
