NEW YORK - Seton Hall University graduate forward Janee Johnson (Matthews, N.C.) has been named to the BIG EAST Women's Basketball Weekly Honor Roll for the first time in her career, Monday it was announced by the league office. Johnson nearly averaged a double-double in a pair of SHU wins over the weekend, scoring 14.0 points with 9.0 rebounds per game.
Johnson, who has developed into one of the most lethal 3-point shooting threats in the BIG EAST this season, put her range on display all weekend, hitting four 3-point field goals in each of Seton Hall's wins.
In a dominant 95-68 victory over Georgetown on Friday night, Johnson shot 4-of-6 from3-point range to tally 14 points with eight rebounds.
Against Villanova on Sunday, Johnson was critical to Seton Hall's ability to come away with a 64-62 win. On senior day in what was her final performance at Walsh Gym, she registered her second double-double of the season with 14 points and 10 rebounds, knocking down four triples for a second-straight game.
The last of those four long-range buckets came at a key moment, as she buried a three from the corner with 3:23 remaining to give the Pirates a late 60-57 lead.
Entering the season, Johnson had hit just two 3-point field goals in her career. This year, she is ranked third in the BIG EAST, shooting 39.1 percent from 3-point range, knocking down 45-of-115 attempts.
During conference play, Johnson is averaging 2.4 3-pointers per game and is shooting 43.3 percent from beyond the arc; she has hit at least one 3-pointer in 11-straight games.
For the year, she is averaging 8.7 points and 7.0 rebounds per game.
With two games remaining, Seton Hall (24-4, 13-3) is in control of its own destiny to win the BIG EAST regular season crown and seize the No. 1 seed for the conference tournament, but the Pirates face a difficult road swing to close out the year.
Seton Hall travels to Cincinnati, Ohio, to face Xavier University on Friday night at 7 p.m., and wraps up BIG EAST play at Butler on Sunday, March 1.
