Ka-Deidre Simmons Named to Honor Roll

NEW YORK - Seton Hall University point guard Ka-Deidre Simmons (Newark, N.J.) was named to the BIG EAST Women's Basketball Weekly Honor Roll for the second time in as many weeks Monday it was announced by the league office. She led the Pirates to a 1-1 record last week, averaging 16 points and six assists per game.
Simmons, who was just one of 31 student-athletes named to the Nancy Lieberman Award Watch List last week, turned in an impressive 17 point, seven assist performance in just 28 minutes of action of a 67-40 win over Providence College on Friday night. The victory saw the Pirates limit the Friars to just 40 points, the fewest for an SHU opponent this season, and was the 20th-straight win in Walsh Gym, which tied a program record.
Seton Hall had its home winning streak snapped by Creighton, 81-73, on Sunday afternoon, but Simmons impressed yet again with 15 points, five assists and five steals. Those numbers gave her one career milestone and moved her within striking distance of another.
With five assists, Simmons became just the second player in program history to reach 500 in a career, and she now sits just 34 shy of Kathy O'Reilly's (1985-89) program record of 533.
Additionally, Simons increased her career-scoring tally to 1,555 points, which leaves her just four points shy of moving past SHU Hall of Famer Jodi Brooks (1990-94) for fifth-place in program history.
Simmons ranks second at Seton Hall and fifth in the BIG EAST, averaging 17.3 points per game, and continues to lead the conference and rank 24th nationally with 5.5 assists per game.
Seton Hall (21-3, 10-2) returns to action this weekend with a big-time conference showdown at DePaul University on Friday night at 8 p.m. (ET) on the BIG EAST Digital Network. SHU defeated DePaul 107-87 when they met last month in South Orange, but the Blue Demons have not lost since and hold a half game lead for first place in the conference standings.
