SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. - The RV/#25 Seton Hall University women's basketball team will open 2015 BIG EAST Championship play in the quarterfinals against either Marquette University or Providence College on Sunday, March 8, at Allstate Arena in Rosemont, Ill., at 12 p.m. (CT).
Eight-seeded Marquette, and nine-seed Providence will face one another in the BIG EAST opening round on Saturday, March 7, at 2 p.m. (CT).
The BIG EAST quarterfinals will be nationally televised on Fox Sports 2. The tournament semifinals will appear on Fox Sports 1 and Fox Sports 2, and the conference title game will air on Fox Sports 1 on Tuesday, March 10, at 7 p.m. (CT).
Seton Hall (26-4, 15-3) which captured its first-ever BIG EAST regular season title will be the No. 1 seed in the conference tournament for the first time in its history. The Pirates finished in a tie at the top of the league standings with DePaul University, meaning the teams will be declared co-regular season champions. However. Seton Hall swept the Blue Demons in a pair of regular season meetings, meaning the top seed lands with The Hall.
The Pirates went 3-1 during regular season play against their potential quarterfinal opponents. Seton Hall swept Providence College (6-23, 3-15), but split two meetings with Marquette (8-21, 4-14), beating the Golden Eagles 88-58 in South Orange, before suffering a 73-70 setback in Milwaukee on Feb. 15.
Seton Hall has never faced Marquette during BIG EAST Tournament play, and last faced the Friars just a year ago, when the Pirates picked up an 88-79 victory in the opening round.
For The Hall, it will be the second-straight BIG EAST quarterfinals appearance. Last year marked the first time Seton Hall played in the tournament quarterfinals since 2003, which was also the last time the program reached the final eight in back-to-back seasons.
