Kip Paces Pirates to Fifth at Metropolitan Championship

Bronx, N.Y. -Â Senior Sean Kip (Union, N.J.) delivered a strong 8K performance in leading the Seton Hall men's cross country team to a fifth-place finish at the Metropolitan Championship Friday at Van Cortland Park. Kip ran a 27:52.7, which was good for 30th overall, but was less than two minutes off the race's winner.
Kip improved his 8K time by nearly a minute after running a 28:42.88 at the Embry-Riddle Asics Invitational a few weeks ago. Fordham's Brian Cook won the race with a time of 26:12.8.
Junior Louis Bustamante (Hamburg, N.J.) was the second Pirate to cross the finish line, coming in at 28:16.5. He has finished in the top three among his teammates in all three race so far this season. Sophomore Ricky Stephens (Stony Point, N.Y.) also improved his 8K time, finishing at 28:33.5, which is better than a few seconds better than his race at the Embry-Riddle. Junior Jake Simon (Freehold, N.J.) and senior Cameron Quisenberry (Owingsboro, Ky.) rounded out the Pirate scorers that aided the team to the fifth-place finish.
The Pirates will have one more tune-up before the 2016 BIG EAST Championship. The team will compete in the Leopard Invitational at Lafayette College on Saturday, Oct. 15. The conference championship will take place on Friday, Oct. 28.
