RESULTS
Bronx, N.Y. -Â Sophomore Kiley Britten (Crystal Lake, Ill.) and junior Emily Johnson (Wildwood Crest, N.J.) both finished in the top 25 of the 2016 Metropolitan Championship Friday at Van Cortland Park, headling the Pirates' sixth-place finish in the 5K event.
Britten clocked in at 19:58.5, finishing 21st in the race and just 90 seconds off the winning pace. She also was only 30 seconds off a top-10 finish. This was the 11th time in 12 collegiate races that Britten has finished among Seton Hall's top-two. She also improved her 5K time by four seconds from her finish at the Embry-Riddle Invitational.
Johnson posted a time of 20:10.7, good for a 25th-place finish in the race, which is 26 seconds better than her Embry-Riddle time from a few weeks ago. She now has top-two team finishes in three of the four races this season.
Junior Christiana Rutkowski (Middletown, N.J.) finished third among the Pirates with a time of 20:51.0. It's actually the first time in her collegiate career that she didn't finish first for Seton Hall. She was part of a logjam of runners as 28 student-athletes finished within 60 seconds of each other, spanning from 22nd place to 50th.
Senior Desyre Blackburn (Aloha, Ore.) scored fourth among Pirates runners, coming in two tenths of a second behind Rutkowski at 20:51.2. Freshman Kassandra Yocco (Bethlehem, Pa.) continued her outstanding start to her collegiate career, scoring fifth for The Hall. She has scored in all four of her collegiate meets, this time coming in with a time of 21:41.9.
The Pirates will have one more tune-up before the 2016 BIG EAST Championship. The team will compete in the Leopard Invitational at Lafayette College on Saturday, Oct. 15. The conference championship will take place on Friday, Oct. 28.
