10/8/2016 9:42:00 PM | Women's Volleyball
SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – Senior Danielle Schroeder (Chicago, Ill.) recorded a team-high 13 kills, but the Seton Hall women's volleyball team fell in four sets to Marquette, 3-1 (8-25, 25-21, 14-25, 17-25), on Saturday.
Â
The much taller Marquette front line combined for 15 team blocks, led by 6-foot-6 Jenna Rosenthal, who recorded 10 blocks alone.Â
Â
The Golden Eagles wore down Seton Hall from the start in a dominant first set. With the score tied at two, Marquette went on a 9-0 run to take a commanding 11-2 lead, and never looked back. The Golden Eagles held the Pirate to a -.139 attack percentage in the first set and won in convincing fashion, 25-8.
Â
Seton Hall (9-11, 3-4) looked like a completely different team in set two. Trailing 4-1, the Pirates went on an 8-2 run to take a 9-6 advantage and never trailed again. A kill by Caitlin Koska (Franklin, Wis.) extended the Pirates' lead to five at 18-13, and The Hall went on to win 25-21 to tie the match. Tessa Fournier (Redondo Beach, Calif.) had 15 of her match-high 25 digs in set two alone.Â
Â
Turning Point:
The Golden Eagles bounced back after the extended break. With the score tied at four in set three, Marquette went on a 12-2 run to take a 16-6 lead. From there, the Pirates couldn't get closer than eight points and eventually fell, 25-14. The fourth set was similar with the Golden Eagles going on a run mid-set to take control. With the score tied at nine, Marquette scored seven of the next eight points to grab a 16-10 advantage. Seton Hall played catch-up the rest of the way, and fell, 25-17.
