Seton Hall Takes On Mountaineer Intercollegiate

BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. - The Seton Hall men's golf team will return to the links this Monday for the first two of three rounds at the 2016 Mountaineer Intercollegiate, Oct. 10-11.

The Course:
Pete Dye Golf Club ingeniously weaves mining remnants and rambunctious terrain into a course that tempts and tests you from the opening tee shot to your final putt. Spread out over 250 acres amidst the Appalachian Mountains, the fairways bob and weave through wildly rugged terrain and Dye's graceful earth sculptures. From 2004-2009, Pete Dye GC course played host to an annual PGA TOUR/web.com event. The Pete Dye Golf Club gained national recognition as host to the PGA Nationwide Tour 2004-2009, ranks #46 among Golf Digest's 100 Greatest Courses, and is #9 on Golfweeks' Best Modern Courses.

The Field:
In addition to Seton Hall and host West Virginia, the talented field is comprised of 12 other teams including:  Akron, Arkansas, Arkansas State, Bowling Green, Cincinnati, East Carolina, James Madison, Marshall, Memphis, Miami (Ohio), Mississippi State and Toledo. Other than Seton Hall, there are no BIG EAST schools in the field.

The Lineup:
Seton Hall will be bringing the following lineup, in order as indicated, to Bridgeport, W.Va.

Nagai shot a team-best, 1-over-par, 73, in the final round as the Pirates finished 12th at the 2015 Mountaineer Intercollegiate. Nagai's 73 was the lowest round of his young career and lifted him to a tie for 31st place with a final two-day score of 8-over-par with a 79-73-152. No other current Pirate has played this tournament before.

Collectively, The Hall was two strokes better in the final round, shooting a 17-over-par, 305. The Pirates finished the two-day event with a 36-over-par, 307-305-612. Penn State won the team title at 9-over-par. Seton Hall however, did finish ahead of its only BIG EAST competition, St. John's, which registered a 63-over-par, 639.

Last Time Out:
Linus Yip fired a 1-under-par, 69, in Monday's final round to lead the Pirates to an eighth place finish at the Marquette Intercollegiate. Yip was impressive throughout the three-round tournament and finished tied for 20th among 66 individual golfers with a 3-over-par, 72-72-69-213.

Collectively, the Pirates shaved three strokes off their second round score to register a 10-over-par, 290, on Monday. For the tournament, Seton Hall finished 37-over-par with a 294-293-290-877. Northwestern won the title and was the only team to shoot under par for the tournament at 4-under. Seton Hall's lone BIG EAST competition, Marquette, finished sixth, 15 strokes better than the Pirates.

The top Pirate finisher for the tournament was Gen Nagai, who was only 1-over-par on Monday. The sophomore finished the tournament tied for seventh with an even-par, 69-70-71-210. It's Nagai's third career top-10 finish. Northwestern's Ryan Lumsden won the individual title, finishing just three strokes ahead of Nagai.

The field will play two continuous rounds (36 holes) beginning with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start on Monday. On Tuesday, a single final round will be played with tee times starting at 8:30 a.m.
