THREE-PEAT! Fournier Named Libero of the Year Again

NEW YORK, N.Y. – Seton Hall senior Tessa Fournier (Redondo Beach, Calif.) was named BIG EAST Libero of the Year on Wednesday for the third straight season. Fournier was also named to the All-BIG EAST First Team, while teammate Danielle Schroeder (Chicago, Ill.) earned Second Team recognition.
Â
Fournier becomes only the second player in BIG EAST history to win the prestigious defensive award three times, joining St. John's Lena Yee (2006-08). Furthermore, Seton Hall takes home Libero of the Year honors for the fifth consecutive season. Former Pirate Alyssa Warren won the prestigious honor in back-to-back seasons in 2012 & 2013 prior to Fournier.Â
Â
Fournier had another dominant defensive season, leading the BIG EAST in digs per set (5.03) for a third consecutive season. Named to Seton Hall Classic All-Tournament Team, Fournier recorded at least 20 digs in a single-match 14 times this season, including a season-high 33 digs vs. Butler on Sept. 23. She completed the regular season with 22 digs in only three sets in a must-win match vs. St. John's on Nov. 19, and was rightfully named BIG EAST Player of the Week for her performance. Earlier this season, she was named one of only 30 candidates nationwide for the prestigious Senior CLASS Award, which honors excellence on the court, in the classroom and in the community.
Â
Fournier's 533 digs this season is the eighth-highest single-season total in Seton Hall history. She now possesses the eighth, fifth and first positions on that list. This season, she also moved into second place on the Pirates' career digs list becoming only the second Pirate to record more than 2,000 digs.
Â
Schroeder earns her first-ever post-season BIG EAST recognition after arguably her most-dominant season in South Orange. Named to the All-Tournament Teams at both the Golden Dome Invitational and the Seton Hall Classic, she earned BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll recognition three times this season. Schroeder recorded at least 15 kills in a single-match six times this season, including a season-high 19 kills in a crucial victory over Villanova on Nov. 5.Â
Â
An incredibly versatile talent, Schroeder enjoyed career-highs this season in kills, attack percentage, assists, service aces and blocks. Her 36 service aces are tied for second-most in the BIG EAST. Earlier this season, Schroeder became only the 10th Pirate in history to record 1,000 career digs. She ranks ninth on the Seton Hall career kills list and seventh on the career attacks list.
