Pirates Host LIU Brooklyn On Kids Day Wednesday

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. -- The Seton Hall women's basketball team (5-3) is back at Walsh Gym on Wednesday to host LIU Brooklyn (1-6) in a non-conference tilt. The contest will tip off at 11:30 a.m. and serve as The Hall's Kids Day, presented by Refuel with Chocolate Milk. Over 600 school-aged students are expected to be in attendance for match-up, which will be available for FREE on the Pirate Sports Network with Cory Pontarollo and Olivia Mulvihill on the call.Â
Both the Pirates and Blackbirds are coming off victories in their respective last outings, with Seton Hall downing Wake Forest, 70-63, while LIU Brooklyn defeated Stony Brook on Sunday. The contest will mark the first meeting between the two sides since the 2000-01 season when Seton Hall head coach Anthony Bozzella was the head man at LIU Brooklyn. The Pirates are looking to improve on a 4-1 start to their home schedule with only three contests remaining in the non-conference slate.Â

- LIU Brooklyn visits Walsh Gym with a 1-6 record on the year, picking up its first win of the season in its last outing by knocking off Stony Brook, 58-48, on Dec. 4
- Shanovia Dove leads LIU in scoring with 12.7 points per game, while Aja Boyd is second on the squad with 7.1 and grabs 5.4 rebounds per contest
- Boyd is tops on the Blackbirds with a 50.0 percent mark from the floor and fellow freshman Gabrielle Caponegro has notched a team-high 10 blocks while leading LIU with 5.7 rebounds per game
- LIU Brooklyn is coached by Stephanie Oliver, who was Bozzella's lead assistant during his first two seasons at Seton Hall

- The Pirates stormed back with a 23-6 third quarter, going up by six headed to the fourth
- Wake Forest pulled even midway through the fourth at 49-all, but the Pirates used a 7-0 spurt to re-take the lead and hold on
- Lubirdia Gordon had a monster double-double with a career-high 15 points and 13 rebounds, also blocking five shots
- LaTecia Smith set a new career-high as well with a game-high 19 points, going 6-for-7 from the floor
- The Pirates forced 28 Wake Forest turnovers for the game, while turning it over only four times in the second half
- The victory was The Hall's third this season when trailing at the break and second after facing a double-digit halftime deficit
LIU BROOKLYN SERIES NOTES
The Pirates have faced LIU Brooklyn three times in program history, winning all three meetings.
- The last outing came on Nov. 18, 2000 - an 82-51 victory for the Pirates
- In that triumph, LIU was coached by none other than Bozzella himself, in the first season of a two-year stint with the Blackbirds
- In two seasons at his first D-I stop, Bozzella went 34-27 and reached the 2001 NCAA Tournament
