The Hall Falls At St. John's On Saturday Night
9/24/2016 9:26:00 PM | Men's Soccer
QUEENS, N.Y. – The Seton Hall men's soccer team (2-5-1, 0-2-0 BIG EAST) dropped a 1-0 decision at St. John's (4-2-2, 1-0-1) on Saturday night in a road BIG EAST match-up at Belson Stadium. The contest was The Hall's third of a season-long four-game road swing and marked the third-straight contest in the rivalry to finish with a 1-0 score.
The Pirates held an advantage in the early going, out-shooting the Red Storm by a margin of 6-3 and controlling the majority of action in the first half. The script was flipped in the second period, with the Red Storm breaking a scoreless draw in the 68th minute with a penalty kick goal. The tally would stand as the contest's lone goal, with St. John's withstanding late Seton Hall pressure to secure the tight win.
Turning Point
In the 68th minute, St. John's Filippo Ricupati drew a foul in the box to earn a penalty kick. Ricupati sent his attempt down the middle past a lunging Julian Spindler (Weiersbach, Germany) to bury his third goal of the year. The goal would stand up as the game-winner.
