McGovern Golden Again, Pirates Win In OT At Albany
9/8/2016 11:02:00 PM | Women's Soccer
ALBANY, N.Y. – For the second time in her young career, freshman Siobhan McGovern (Cranford, N.J.) provided an overtime golden goal winner on the road for the Seton Hall women's soccer team (3-3-0). On Thursday night at Tom & Mary Casey Stadium, McGovern's strike came in the 93rd minute to seal a 2-1 comeback victory at Albany (2-5-0).
Down 1-0 with less than 15 minutes to go in regulation, The Hall found an equalizer by way of the first career goal from Lauren Hall (Bridgewater, N.J.) to level the contest in the 77th minute. That tally led to overtime, where McGovern was able to unleash her heroics for the second time this season. The freshman also notched a golden goal winner on Aug. 22 at Army West Point.
Turning Point
After equalizing late in regulation, the Pirates needed less than three minutes of overtime to come up with a winner. Pressure from The Hall led to a corner kick, swung into the box by captain Frankie Maier (Oradell, N.J.). McGovern fought her way through traffic to put a strong header on the feed, tucking it inside the right post for her second goal of the season.
