Jackson Preseason All-Conference, SHU Tabbed Sixth

NEW YORK – The Seton Hall women's basketball team was tabbed for a sixth place finish in the BIG EAST conference by the conference's coaches, the league announced during Media Day on Wednesday (Oct. 18). In addition, senior guard JaQuan Jackson (Killeen, Texas) was named to the league's Preseason All-Conference Team.
Jackson's nod comes after the 5-8 guard finished third in the league in scoring with 15.3 points per game during the 2016-17 season. In her first year as a Pirate, the Louisiana Tech transfer knocked down 57 shots from 3-point range and shot 33.1 percent from distance, adding 3.0 rebounds and 1.7 steals per game. She was named All-Metropolitan Second Team at the conclusion of her junior season.
Making 25 starts in 28 total appearances, Jackson was a three-time member of the BIG EAST weekly honor roll, scored in double-figures on 21 occasions and eclipsed 20 points six times. She had a career performance on Feb. 26 at St. John's, pouring in 32 points on 12-of-22 shooting while playing all 40 minutes. Jackson becomes the first Preseason All-Conference pick for The Hall since fellow Texan Tabatha Richardson-Smith prior to the 2015-16 season.
The sixth-place pick for the Pirates is one spot higher than their seventh-place league finish in 2016-17. In every season under fifth-year head coach Anthony Bozzella, The Hall has met or exceeded its preseason projection.
In addition to Jackson, the Pirates return high scoring guard Kaela Hilaire (Floral Park, N.Y.) and gain the services of impact transfers Taylor Brown (Paterson, N.J.) and Donnaizha Fountain (Roxbury, Mass.) along with six total returning letterwinners. The Hall opens the regular season on Nov. 10 at home against Saint Peter's.
