Pirates Fall To Villanova On Senior Day

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – In its final home game of the 2016-17 season, the Seton Hall women's basketball team (11-15, 4-11 BIG EAST) fell to Villanova (14-11, 9-5 BIG EAST) by a score of 87-52 on Sunday afternoon at Walsh Gymnasium. Prior to the contest, The Hall honored its 2017 Senior Class of Kathleen Egan, Tara Inman and Lubirdia Gordon.
In her final home game it was Gordon (Mount Vernon, N.Y.) who led the Pirates offensively, scoring a game-high 18 points on 7-of-8 shooting. LaTecia Smith (Gardena, Calif.) was also in double-figures with 10 points and added six rebounds and four assists. For Villanova, Jordan Dillard scored 15 points to lead six Wildcats in double-figures.
Turning Point
The Wildcats came out hot offensively, shooting a blistering 20-for-27 (74.1 percent) in the first half. That, coupled with a defensive effort that held The Hall to a 33.3 percent mark in the first two periods, allowed Villanova to build a 48-22 halftime lead and put the contest out of reach.
Inside The Numbers
- Villanova shot 57.4 percent from the floor and 34.6 percent from 3-point range, compared to 39.3 percent and 16.7 percent marks for The Hall
- The Wildcats finished with a 39-22 edge on the glass, using 10 offensive rebounds to post a 10-2 advantage in second chance points
- Both sides turned it over eight times, marking a season-low for the Pirates
- VU held a slight 30-28 edge in the paint
- Playing in her final game at Walsh Gym, Gordon scored in double-figures for the ninth time this season and the 13th time in her career
- In two games against Villanova this season, Gordon averaged 19.0 points
