SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – Head coach Anthony Bozzella has announced that junior college standout Inja Butina, a 5'9 guard from Zagreb, Croatia, has signed to join the Pirates for the 2017-18 campaign. Butina comes to The Hall from Hutchinson Community College where she led the Blue Dragons to a 33-2 record last season.
An elite playmaker and outside shooter, Butina has shined both at the NJCAA level and on the international stage competing for the Croatian national team on various youth levels. Upon graduation from Hutchinson she will be eligible immediately as a junior for the Pirates. Butina becomes the fourth member of The Hall's incoming class, joining fellow junior Nicole Jimenez (Miami, Fla.) along with freshmen Kimi Evans (Jackson, N.J.) and Selena Philoxy (Brooklyn, N.Y.).

Before SHU: Played for two seasons at Hutchinson Community College in Hutchinson, Kansas…led the Blue Dragons to a 33-2 record and the No. 4 seed in the NJCAA Tournament as a sophomore...over two seasons, averaged 10.3 points, 6.7 assists and 2.9 steals per game in 66 contests…ranked top-four in the NJCAA in total assists as a freshman and sophomore…shot 45.5 percent from 3-point range as a freshman and 40.2 percent from deep in her sophomore season…has played for the Croatian national team at various levels, including the U16 and U18 European Championships…scored 14.3 points per game over nine contests at the 2013 FIBA European U18 Championship...ranked as the No. 32 JUCO prospect in the country by the Dan Olson Collegiate Report.
Bozzella on Butina: "There's a belief around the game that players coming from Europe are more fundamentally sound and Inja would certainly fit into that mold. Her ability as both a floor general and a scorer will be apparent once she steps on the court as a Pirate. We are extremely excited by both her playmaking ability and her 3-point shooting. With her size and skill she can be effective at both guard positions for us and make an immediate impact in the BIG EAST."
