SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – A pair of trips to ACC locales and a visit from a national power highlight the 2017-18 non-conference schedule for the Seton Hall women's basketball team, as announced by fifth-year head coach Anthony Bozzella on Tuesday (Aug. 15). The Pirates will take on a challenging 11-game slate in the non-league portion of the schedule, including eight regular season contests in the friendly confines of Walsh Gym.
"Our schedule is a tremendous blend of local rivalries and national opponents as we are excited to test our team early and often this season," Bozzella said. "We feel that playing a tough schedule will prepare us for the rigorous grind of the BIG EAST season and show us right away what kind of team we are."
After an exhibition contest on Nov. 4 against Philadelphia, The Hall opens the regular season at Walsh Gym with an afternoon tilt against local rival St. Peter's on Nov. 10. Two days later the Pirates hit the road for the first time, returning to Wake Forest after defeating the Demon Deacons in South Orange last season.
A home game against another local rival in Princeton on Nov. 16 kicks off a five-game homestand. The SHU Thanksgiving Classic returns to Walsh Gym on Nov. 25 and Nov. 26, with Rider, East Carolina and Jacksonville State participating in the four team tournament. Empire State foes Marist (Nov. 30) and St. Francis New York (Dec. 2) visit Walsh to round out the home-stand.
For the fifth-straight year overall and third-straight year in the regular season, Seton Hall and Rutgers will square off on the hardwood when the Pirates visit Piscataway on Friday, Dec. 8 at 2 p.m. That match-up opens a quick two-game road swing, with a trip to Boston College slated for Dec. 10.
The proverbial "big fish" of the non-conference schedule hits Walsh Gym on Sunday, Dec. 17 when UCLA visits for a 1 p.m. tip. The Bruins went 25-9 last season and were a No. 4 seed in the NCAA Tournament. The non-conference slate is rounded out on Dec. 21 with an 11 a.m. tip against Fairfield inside Walsh.
The full 2017-18 schedule including television information and conference games will be released at a later date. SEASON TICKETS for women's basketball will be available for purchase or renewal beginning on Aug. 31. For more information call the ticket office at 973-275-4255.

NON-CONFERENCE NOTES
- Under Bozzella, the Pirates are 45-14 in non-conference play
- That mark includes a 30-1 record in non-conference home games
- The Hall has defeated Princeton in each of PU's last two visits to Walsh Gym (2014 and 2015), with the latter snapping a 32-game regular season winning streak for the Tigers
- UCLA's visit to Walsh Gym marks the first time The Hall has hosted a current member of the Pac-12 since Colorado in 2008
- It will signify the sixth time overall a Pac-12 opponent has played at Walsh: California (1994), UCLA (1996), Colorado (2008), Oregon State (1997), Stanford (1985)
- The Hall has also faced Pac-12 foes Arizona State and USC at neutral sites
- With games against Boston College and Wake Forest, The Hall will look to improve on a 3-0 mark against teams from the ACC since the 2015-16 season
- Four non-conference opponents reached the postseason in 2017, with Princeton, Rider and Wake Forest making WNIT appearances along with UCLA's NCAA bid
- Former conference-mates Boston College (41 prior meetings) and Rutgers (44) are the most-played opponents on the non-league schedule, followed by Saint Peter's (17) and Princeton (16)
- The Pirates are unbeaten all-time against both Rider (10-0) and St. Francis (8-0)
- Jacksonville State, a potential Thanksgiving Classic opponent, would be the only first-time opponent on the 2017-18 slate
