
The Hall Drops BIG EAST Opener To St. John's

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – In a hard-fought and extremely physical battle, the Seton Hall men's soccer team (3-4-1, 0-1-0 BIG EAST) dropped its BIG EAST opener to St. John's (4-2-1, 1-0-0) by a score of 1-0 on Saturday afternoon at Owen T. Carroll Field. The 1-0 result marks the fourth-straight year that score has been the final between the two local rivals.
On a humid and hazy afternoon in South Orange, the two sides combined for a whopping 47 fouls and received a total of 13 bookings from the officials. The Hall was forced to play with two men down for the final 12 minutes of regulation, but still managed to generate quality looks late as they attempted to rally for an equalizer that wouldn't come.
Turning Point
St. John's managed to generated seven corner kicks in the first half, finally using a restart and free kick to notch the match's lone goal. After The Hall initial cleared the free kick wide of the box, Jordan Shankle gained control about 27 yards from goal and threw a shot towards net. The lofting attempt ricocheted off the crossbar and in, coming in the 39th minute.
