LOS ANGELES, Calif. – The Seton Hall women's basketball team (4-1) dropped a tough road contest at UCLA (3-1), 72-68, on Sunday at Pauley Pavilion. The setback was the first through the first five contests of the season for The Hall.
Three Pirates finished in double-figures on the day, led by a 14-point, 11-rebound double-double from Shadeen Samuels (Ossining, N.Y.). Inja Butina (Zagreb, Croatia) finished with 13 points and Nicole Jimenez (Miami, Fla.) chipped in 10. For UCLA, Japreece Dean led four Bruins in double-digits with 20 points on 4-of-5 shooting from 3-point range.
The Pirates fell behind by seven after a quarter, but dug in for a tight second frame to go into the half down 41-31. The Hall went ice cold in the third quarter, scoring only six points in the frame and seeing UCLA's lead balloon to as many as 26 early in the third. The Hall again fought back and got as close as 12 in the final stanza before ultimately succumbing. The Pirates out-scored the Bruins 25-21 in the fourth quarter.
