
Thelen Again Paces Pirates Against Creighton

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – Senior Abby Thelen (Ft. Mitchell, Ky.) had a team-high 13 kills, and Sophia Coffey (Sierra Madre, Calif.) nearly had a double-double, but the Seton Hall women's volleyball team fell to No. 9 Creighton, 3-0 (16-25, 19-25, 13-25), on Saturday.
Thelen had 13 kills to go with six digs and a .206 attack percentage in another strong all-around effort. Coffey finished with a team-high 22 assists and eight digs.
SET 1:
The Pirates never led in the first set as Creighton scored nine of the first 12 points to set the pace early. The Hall twice cut the deficit to five points, but couldn't draw closer. The Bluejays went on to claim the first set, 25-16.
SET 2:
A kill by Thelen put Seton Hall in front, 6-5, early in set two, but Creighton regrouped with a 9-1 run to race ahead, 14-7. The Bluejay lead ballooned to 12 points, as they entered set point, 24-12. The resilient Pirates however, scored seven straight points to remain alive, but ultimately fell, 25-19, in the second set. Thelen had seven kills in the second frame alone.
SET 3:
Despite what the final score might indicate, the Pirates had a respectable third set, notching a team-best .194 attack percentage. Unfortunately for the Pirates, Creighton was nearly flawless, recording 16 kills, no attack errors and a .471 attack percentage. Although the Bluejays led wire-to-wire, The Hall kept the score close early, and a kill by Emilee Turner (Kaysville, Utah) cut the Creighton lead to 11-9. The Bluejays scored the next five points however, part of a 14-4 run that ended the set, 25-13.

The Pirates will be back in action on Friday, November 9 for its final home match of the season. The Hall will host local BIG EAST rival St. John's, with Senior Night ceremonies commencing afterward. Match time is scheduled for 8:00 p.m. ET.

- The Pirates had 34 kills, while the Bluejays recorded 47.
- The Hall had 38 digs, compared to Creighton's 45.
- Seton Hall falls to 9-19 overall and 4-11 in the BIG EAST, while Creighton improves to 22-4 overall and 14-0 in conference play.
- The Pirates are now 3-11 all-time against the Bluejays.

- With 13 kills tonight, Thelen became the sixth player in Seton Hall history to surpass the 1,300-kill milestone for a career.
