Pirates Push #9 CU To The Brink In 1-0 Setback
9/29/2018 10:38:00 PM | Men's Soccer
OMAHA, Neb. – The Seton Hall men's soccer team (4-3-1, 1-2-0 BIG EAST) took a top-10 opponent to the wire but was felled by an 84th minute goal in a 1-0 setback at No. 9 Creighton (7-1-1, 3-0-0 BIG EAST) on Saturday night at Morrison Stadium.
The Pirates withstood a heavy onslaught from the Bluejays throughout the match, with Andreas Nota (Rome, Italy) playing a terrific contest in goal and finishing with six saves. Creighton held a heavy advantage in both possession and total attempts, but the Pirates were resolute and nearly went ahead in the second half.
Turning Point
The Pirates took on a heavy Creighton press and looked for an opportunity to counter, getting a golden chance at one in the 69th minute. The Pirate defense forced a turnover deep in the Creighton third and the ball found its way to Carlton McKenzie (Birmingham, England) who took off for a huge run through the CU defense. McKenzie worked his way to the right edge of the box and had a clean look, but his skipping attempt went inches wide of the far post.
In the 84th minute Creighton would finally capitalize on its intense pressure, with Younes Boudadi working deep and whipping in a cross to Sven Koenig for the game-winner.
Goals
84th – CU – Koenig (6) header off Boudadi cross in front
