Alderete Tallies, Pirates Grab Road Draw At DPU
10/6/2018 4:56:00 PM | Men's Soccer
Alderete got the Pirates on the board at the tail end of a dominant first half, with The Hall controlling possession for the majority of the opening 45 and out-shooting DPU 7-2 in the frame. The Blue Demons battled back with a strong second half and found an equalizer in the 59th minute which eventually sent the match to overtime.
Turning Point
In the first overtime period, a relentless DePaul attack led to a series of corner kicks. In a five-minute span the Blue Demons earned five corners but each attempt was thwarted by Andreas Nota (Rome, Italy) and the Pirate defense.
In the second overtime the Pirates flipped the script and pressed forward with several quality looks, but were unable to put one away. In the final minute of double overtime, Alex Pozesky (Columbia, Pa.) and David Arvidsson (Gothenburg, Sweden) both had shots on goal thwarted by DPU keeper Drew Nuelle to preserve the tie.
