SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – The Seton Hall men's soccer team (4-4-2, 1-3-1 BIG EAST) dropped a double overtime heartbreaker to Providence (7-4-1, 4-1-0 BIG EAST), 1-0, on Friday night at Owen T. Carroll Field. The Friars scored in the 102nd minute after a full regulation and overtime period of scoreless action.
The Hall came out of the gates buzzing and nearly took an early lead with a pair of grade-A chances in the first half. In the 17th minute freshman JP Marin (Briarwood, N.Y.) won a ball in front of goal and fired a hard shot on frame that rattled the crossbar before bouncing out of trouble. In the 22nd minute fellow rookie CJ Tibbling (Järna, Sweden) beat a defender to a long lob and knifed a shot towards the far post, but it nicked the post and was cleared.
The contest remained scoreless into the second half, and a skirmish in the 88th minute led to a Seton Hall red card and playing a man down the rest of the match. After a scoreless first extra period, the Friars were finally able to break through for the match's lone goal in the 102nd minute.
Goals
102nd – PC – Joao Serrano served in free kick from 22 yards out, run on to and tapped in by Steven Kilday (1)
