Seton Hall will head back out on the road this weekend for a pair of games in the Midwest. The Pirates will face Xavier in Cincinnati on Friday, before heading to Indianapolis to face Butler on Saturday. The Xavier contest begins at 7:00 p.m. and will be shown on Xavier All-Access at GoXavier.com.
Â
AGAINST GEORGETOWN
No Pirate had more than nine kills, but four had at least six as a balanced offensive attack fueled The Hall swept Georgetown, 3-0 (25-13, 25-18, 25-19), on Wednesday. Senior Haylee Gasser (Mission Viejo, Calif.) had a match-high nine kills to go with four blocks and two digs. Amanda Rachwal (Bethlehem, Pa.), Reece Koehler (Stillwater, Minn.) and Emilee Turner (Kaysville, Utah) combined for 21 kills and only three attack errors (one apiece).
Â
Senior setter Maggie Cvelbar (Euclid, Ohio) finished just one dig shy of another double-double, finishing with a match-high 26 assists to go with nine digs.
Â
SCOUTING XAVIER
Seton Hall and Xavier will meet for the 13th time in history on Friday, with the Musketeers owning a 9-3 lead in the all-time series. Last year, Xavier swept the season series, defeating the Pirates in four sets at both locations.
Â
Xavier enters the weekend with a 5-9 overall record and a 2-2 mark in BIG EAST Conference play. They're just 1-5 at home this season. The Musketeers are coming off a split of BIG EAST matches at Villanova and Georgetown last weekend. They were swept at Nova, but outlasted the Hoyas in five sets in Washington on Saturday.
Â
Xavier has registered BIG EAST wins against DePaul and Georgetown so far this year, both on the road. They even took a set off BIG EAST favorite, Marquette.
Â
The Musketeers were picked to ninth in the 10-team BIG EAST Conference in the preseason coaches' poll.
Â
SCOUTING BUTLER
Seton Hall and Butler will also meet for the 13th time in history with Butler owning a slim 7-5 all-time series advantage. The Bulldogs have won four straight in the series and also swept the Pirates last season. The Hall fell in three sets at Walsh Gym and four sets in Indianapolis.
Â
Butler enters the weekend with a 5-11 mark overall and a 2-2 record in BIG EAST play. Like Xavier, they're coming off a split of road contests at Georgetown and Villanova last weekend. The Bulldogs edged Georgetown in five sets on Friday, but were swept by the Wildcats on Saturday. Butler has registered non-conference victories over Tennessee State, SE Missouri State and Belmont.
Â
The Bulldogs were picked to fifth in the 10-team BIG EAST Conference in the preseason coaches' poll.
