
Cvelbar, Pirates Drop Contest at Butler

INDIANAPOLIS, IND. – Senior Maggie Cvelbar (Euclid, Ohio) had 30 assists and nine digs, but the Seton Hall women's volleyball team fell at Butler, 3-0 (13-25, 14-25, 16-25), on Saturday.

Cvelbar finished just one dig shy of a double-double for a third straight match. She did however, notch her seventh 30-assist performance of the season.Â

Senior Haylee Gasser (Mission Viejo, Calif.) and freshman Julia Wilkins (Mason, Ohio) tied for the team lead with eight kills apiece.  Â

SET 1:
Butler took control from the start in set one, scoring the first four points of the set, and eight of the first 10. The Pirates never led in the first set as the Bulldogs went wire-to-wire. Seton Hall cut the deficit to seven points on three separate occasions, but ultimately fell by 12 points, 25-13.Â

SET 2:
Trailing 10-8 in set two, The Hall scored three of the next four points to tie the contest at 11. Butler responded however with a 14-3 set-ending run, which started with four straight points. The Bulldogs went on to win, 25-14, to take a 2-0 match lead.

SET 3:
The Pirates put up their best effort in the final set, but ultimately the results were the same. Seton Hall charged out of the starting block, scoring five of the first six points. Butler bounced back though with a 6-1 run to take a 7-6 advantage. With the score tied at eight, the Bulldogs went on an 8-2 run to take a 16-10 lead. A kill by Amanda Rachwal (Bethlehem, Pa.) cut their deficit to three points, 19-16, but Butler closed out the match with six straight points.

Seton Hall will return to action on Wednesday, Oct. 16 when they travel to Philadelphia for a contest at Villanova. Match time is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. ET.

- Seton Hall recorded a .189 attack percentage for the match, while Butler attacked at .426.
- The Pirates had 31 kills, while the Butler recorded 48.
- The Hall finished with 34 digs, while the Bulldogs tallied 36.
- Seton Hall falls to 7-14 overall and 2-5 in BIG EAST Conference play.
- The Pirates are now 5-8 all-time against Butler.
- The Hall drops to 4-10 in three-set matches.
