LAST WEEKEND
Seton Hall dropped a pair of home contests last weekend against DePaul on Friday, and No. 11 Marquette on Saturday. Junior Amanda Rachwal (Bethlehem, Pa.) recorded a career-high 19 kills without making an attack error, but the Pirates fell in four sets to DePaul, 3-1 (17-25, 25-21, 17-25, 21-25), on Friday.
Â
Rachwal's 19 kills came on 32 attacks for a team-best .593 attack percentage. She also had five digs and blocked two attacks.  Freshman Reece Koehler (Stillwater, Minn.) notched a career-best 12 kills, while senior Maggie Cvelbar (Euclid, Ohio) had a match-high 40 assists.
Â
On Saturday, senior Haylee Gasser (Mission Viejo, Calif.) erupted for 19 kills, but The Hall dropped its contest to No. 11 Marquette, 3-0 (12-25, 40-42, 12-25), despite a historic second set effort on Saturday.
Â
In the second set, Seton Hall fell, 42-40, setting a new Pirate record for points in a single set. Marquette's 42 points were just four away from the NCAA single-set record. The Pirates went toe-to-toe with the nation's No. 11 ranked team, staving off 12 Marquette set points before ultimately succumbing on the 13th.
Â
SCOUTING PROVIDENCE
On Oct. 4, Gasser recorded a career-high 23 kills as the Pirates edged Providence, 3-2 (21-25, 25-23, 25-23, 21-25, 15-13), for its first BIG EAST win of the season. Gasser was brilliant, registering 23 kills with only five attack errors and an impressive .383 attack percentage. Cvelbar notched a double-double with a match-high 42 assists to go with 13 digs.
Â
Both Rachwal and Julia Wilkins (Mason, Ohio) also impressed offensively, recording 12 kills apiece.
Â
Providence enters the weekend with a 5-18 overall record and an 0-10 mark in BIG EAST Conference play. The Friars have lost 14 straight matches, with their last victory coming on Sept. 14 against non-conference Coppin State.Â
Â
The Friars are coming off a tough weekend with a pair of three-set losses to No. 10 Creighton.  Despite their 0-10 record, the Friars have played teams difficult. Of their 10 conference matches, only four times have they been swept.
Â
SCOUTING CREIGHTON
On Oct. 5, Wilkins recorded a match-high 13 kills, but the Seton Hall women's volleyball team fell in straight sets to No. 14 Creighton, 3-0 (19-25, 16-25, 12-25). Wilkins had 13 kills, only four attack errors and a team-best .290 attack percentage. Cvelbar registered a double-double with 21 assists and 10 digs.
Â
Creighton has been the near opposite of Providence, entering the weekend with a 17-3 overall record and a perfect 10-0 mark in BIG EAST play. The Bluejays have won 12 straight contests, including a crucial five-set victory at No. 10 Marquette on Oct. 12. That match was the last time Creighton has lost a set, going 12-for-12 in their four matches since.
Â
The Bluejays are vying for their fifth straight BIG EAST Conference championship.
