
Pirates Drop Three-Set Contest at Providence

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Freshman Raygan Murray (Rocky River, Ohio) recorded 20 digs, but the Seton Hall women's volleyball team fell in three sets to Providence, 3-0 (16-25, 23-25, 20-25), on Friday.

Murray reached the 20-dig mark for the third time this season, and also recorded four assists in the Pirates' setback. Offensively, both Haylee Gasser (Mission Viejo, Calif.) and Amanda Rachwal (Bethlehem, Pa.) led The Hall with 12 kills.

Senior Maggie Cvelbar (Euclid, Ohio) had a double-double with a match-high 31 assists to go with 11 digs.

SET 1:
Seton Hall charged out of the gate in the opening set and block assists by Gasser and Reece Koehler (Stillwater, Minn.) put the Pirates on top, 10-5. Providence however, responded with a 9-3 run to take a 14-13 advantage. With the score tied at 15, the Friars went on an 8-0 run to take a commanding 23-15 lead, and went on to win the opener, 25-16.

SET 2:
Although the second set was close, Providence led from wire-to-wire. The Friars scored three of the first four points, and never trailed. A Providence service error cut their lead to one, 10-9, but the Friars went on a 6-1 run to jump ahead, 16-10. A kill by Gasser cut the Providence lead to 20-18, but again the Friars extended their lead to a comfortable margin. Facing a Friars set point, 24-21, a kill and an ace by Gasser cut The Hall's deficit to only one, 24-23, but Providence got the next point to edge Seton Hall, 25-23, in set two.

With the score tied at 11 in the third set, Providence scored six straight to jump ahead, 17-11. Seton Hall roared back with a 6-0 run of its own, and a kill by Rachwal tied the set at 17. Another kill by Rachwal tied the contest at 20, but the Friars ended the set with five straight points to complete the sweep with a 25-20 set three win.

Seton Hall will return to action on Sunday when they travel to Omaha for a BIG EAST Conference match against No. 9 Creighton. Match time is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. ET.
