
Pirates Fall at No. 9 Creighton

OMAHA, NEB. – The Seton Hall women's volleyball team ran into a red-hot Creighton squad ranked No. 9 in the country and fell in straight sets, 3-0 (12-25, 12-25, 9-25), on Saturday.Â

Creighton has now won 14 straight matches and lost only a total of three sets during its streak. The Pirates, plagued with injuries all season, have dropped their last seven contests.

Junior Amanda Rachwal (Bethlehem, Pa.) led the Pirates with five kills and had only one attack error. Senior Maggie Cvelbar (Euclid, Ohio) had seven assists and tied for the team lead with eight digs.

SET 1:
The Pirates never led in the first set at Creighton used an 8-2 burst early on to take a 10-4 lead. A kill by Rachwal cut The Hall's deficit to 17-10, but the Bluejays responded with another 8-2 run to close out the set, 25-12.

SET 2:
The second set was a similar fate for Seton Hall as Creighton scored seven of the first eight points. A 5-0 charge by the Bluejays gave them a commanding 16-4 advantage before The Hall played them more evenly late in the set. Another kill by Rachwal staved off one set point, but ultimately the Bluejays won set two, 25-12.

Trailing 2-1 early in the third set, Creighton erupted for an 8-1 run to grab a 9-3 advantage. Leading 12-6, the Bluejays scored seven of the next eight points to take a commanding 19-7 lead. Creighton went on to claim the final set, 25-9.

Seton Hall will return to action on Friday, November 8 when they return to the friendly confines of Walsh Gymnasium for a contest against Butler. Match time is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. ET.
