
Gasser Leads Pirates in St. John's Loss

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – Senior Haylee Gasser (Mission Viejo, Calif.) recorded a team-highs of 12 kills and seven digs, but the Seton Hall women's volleyball team fell to St. John's, 3-0 (16-25, 18-25, 20-25), in Walsh Gym on Senior Day, Sunday.

Gasser, Maggie Cvelbar (Euclid, Ohio) and Madison Salkowski (Cold Spring, Ky.) were honored in a post-match Senior Day ceremony for their four years of service to the program.

Cvelbar finished the match with a team-best 15 assists to go with five digs. Salkowski had two kills.

SET 1:
St. John's led the first set wire-to-wire after scoring the first three points of the set. A kill by freshman Reece Koehler (Stillwater, Minn.) cut the Pirates' deficit to three, 9-6, but St. John's responded with a 6-1 run to take a 15-7 advantage. On three occasions, Seton Hall was able to cut their deficit to four points, but couldn't get closer in a 25-16 loss.

SET 2:
The Red Storm scored 11 of the first 15 points in the second set, which prompted an early Seton Hall timeout. From there, the Pirates played St. John's even for the rest of the set. The Red Storm lead grew to as many as nine, and didn't get smaller than six. The final margin was seven, a 25-18 second set victory for St. John's.

Seton Hall played its best set in the final frame, recording a team-best .206 attack percentage. The Pirates scored the first two points of the set, but St. John's responded with a 6-1 run and never trailed again. The Pirates scored three straight to cut the St. John's lead to 15-14, but the Red storm took off again, scoring seven of the next nine points to take a commanding 22-16 advantage. The Red Storm went on to claim the final set, 25-20.

Seton Hall will return to action on Friday, Nov. 22 when it hosts Villanova in the final game of the season at Walsh Gymnasium. Match time is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. ET.
