
Pirates Fall Despite Gasser's Big Effort

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – Senior Haylee Gasser (Mission Viejo, Calif.) had a match-high 14 kills to go with 15 digs, but the Seton Hall women's volleyball team fell in four sets to Villanova, 3-1 (25-23, 16-25, 23-25, 19-25), on Friday.

Gasser's double-double is the fifth of her career. Both Amanda Rachwal (Bethlehem, Pa.) and Reece Koehler (Stillwater, Minn.) also reached double-figures in kills, registering 10 apiece.

SET 1:
The opening set was a thriller, featuring 15 ties and six lead changes. Trailing 21-20, Seton Hall scored three straight points, and a service ace by Grace Rosenberg (Lido Beach, N.Y.) put it on top, 23-21, and forced a Villanova timeout. Out of the break, The Hall was able to find the final two points to win the opening set, 25-23. The Pirates had an attack percentage of .444 in the opening frame.

Seton Hall led early in set two, but then Villanova took control mid-way through. Leading 9-8, the Wildcats went on a 10-2 run to grab a commanding 19-10 advantage. The Pirates cut their deficit to as few as seven points, but couldn't draw closer, and ultimately fell, 25-16.

In the third set, Villanova scored 10 of the first 13 points to grab an early seven-point advantage. The Pirates rallied however, with an 8-1 run of their own to tie the score at 11. With the score tied at 19, a kill by Mackenzie Huntley (Leander, Texas) and block assists by Huntley and Rachwal, put The Hall on top 21-19. Villanova responded with six of the final eight points of the set to win, 25-23.

Seton Hall charged out of the starting gates in the fourth set, scoring nine of the first 11 points, but Villanova rallied with an 11-3 run to take a 13-12 lead. An ace by Wilkins, cut Nova's lead to 15-14, but the Wildcats scored six of the next eight points to grab a 21-16 advantage. Villanova went on to win set four, 25-18, to claim the match in four sets.

Seton Hall will complete the 2019 season with one final BIG EAST match on Sunday, Nov. 24. The Pirates will travel to Washington, D.C. for a contest with Georgetown. Match time is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. ET.
