BIMINI, The Bahamas – Seton Hall is among the eight women's basketball teams selected to compete in the 2019 Junkanoo Jam at Resorts World Bimini, as announced Wednesday by tournament directors. Georgia Tech, Kansas State, LSU, Memphis, Michigan State, Rutgers and Vanderbilt will also compete in the 17th-annual Junkanoo Jam, Nov. 27-Dec. 1, 2019.
"We are extremely excited about the opportunity to compete in such a competitive field at a prestigious event," sixth-year head coach Anthony Bozzella said. "This will be a tremendous challenge and a wonderful experience for our team."
"We have a group of talented teams set to join us in the Bahamas next year," women's tournament director Becky Adams said. "The teams will surely enjoy their time on island competing and experiencing all that the island has to offer."
Seton Hall will be competing in the Junkanoo Jam for the third time, also taking part in the tournament in 2003 and 2010. The competitive field includes opponents from the ACC, Big 10, Big 12, and SEC. The last BIG EAST team to play in the Junkanoo Jam was Creighton in 2016. The Hall last played in an international in-season tournament in 2015, when it went 2-0 at the Cancun Challenge in Cancun, Mexico.
The Junkanoo Jam is entering its 17th year in the Bahamas as a top NCAA Division I women's basketball tournament. Originally held in Freeport on Grand Bahama Island, the tournament was moved to the island of Bimini in 2016. Â
Game times and matchups for the 2019 Junkanoo Jam at Resorts World Bimini will be announced next spring, following the conclusion of the 2018-19 basketball season. For more information about the Junkanoo Jam at Resorts World Bimini, visit www.junkanoojam.com.
