NEW LOOK
Seton Hall will have a new look in 2019 with the graduation of a power 2018 class, which included two-time First Team All-Conference performer Abby Thelen. In fact, 10 of the 15 players on the roster are freshmen or sophomores, eight of which are entering their first collegiate season. Senior Haylee Gasser (Mission Viejo, Calif.) will make the move from middle blocker to outside hitter this season, and figures to be a major part of the Pirates' offense. Senior Maggie Cvelbar (Euclid, Ohio) takes over for graduate Sophia Coffey as the team's primary setter, although she has seen significant time in the past when the Pirates employed a 6-2 offense.
Â
Senior Madison Salkowski (Cold Spring, Ky.) returns healthy from an injury that wiped out her 2018 campaign. She'll provide depth in the middle again.Â
Â
Juniors Amanda Rachwal (Bethlehem, Pa.) and Elizabeth Sottung (Westfield, N.J.) will again play major roles. Rachwal figures to continue to start at middle blocker, while Sottung battles sophomore Eden Dolezal (La Porte, Ind.) for time at libero. Dolezal had an immediate impact as a freshman last year, seeing most of her time as the team's libero and leading the Pirates in both digs and digs per set. Sophomore Emilee Turner (Kaysville, Utah) will look to build on a strong first season and provide depth on the outside.
Â
All eight of the Pirate freshman can potentially see significant time in 2019 with Reagan Hopp (Carmel, Ind.) and Reece Koehler (Stillwater, Minn.) likely to crack the starting lineup for opening weekend. Setter Grace Rosenberg (Lido Beach, N.Y.) will likely see time if the Pirates go to a 6-2 offense.

SCOUTING MORGAN STATE
Seton Hall and Morgan State will meet for only the third time in history on Friday with the Pirates having won both prior matches. Most recently, The Hall swept the Bears as part of the Seton Hall Classic in Walsh Gym on Sept. 15, 2012.
Â
Morgan State is coming off a 13-15 season in 2018. Their season came to an end with a five-set loss to Florida A&M in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference tournament. The Bears faced a pair of BIG EAST opponents in 2018, falling to Villanova in four sets at the Delaware Classic, and being swept at Georgetown.
Â
Morgan State was picked to finish third in the Northern Division of the MEAC in 2019. No players were named to the MEAC Preseason Team.
Â
SCOUTING QUINNIPIAC
Seton Hall and Quinnipiac will meet for the fourth time in history, with the Pirates having swept all three prior meetings. Most recently, The Hall downed the Bobcats, 3-0, at the Rose Hill Invitational on Sept. 15, 2007.
Â
Quinnipiac is coming off a 9-21 season in 2018, defeating Niagara in the opening round of the MAAC Tournament, but falling in the quarterfinals to Fairfield. The Bobcats didn't play any BIG EAST teams last season.
Â
Quinnipiac was picked to finish fourth in the 10-team MAAC in 2019 and was one of three teams to receive a first-place vote. No players were named to the MAAC Preseason Team.
Â
SCOUTING TOWSON
Seton Hall and Towson will meet for the fourth time in history on Saturday with the Tigers owning a 2-1 all-time series lead. After four-set losses to Towson in 1990 and 2006, the Pirates broke into the win column in 2016 with a four set win at Walsh Gym.
Â
Towson is coming off a 17-15 season in 2018, and swept Northeastern in the Colonial Athletic Association Championship before falling to Hofstra in five sets to end their season. The Tigers faced BIG EAST foe Xavier at the Puerto Rico Clasico in San Juan and swept the Musketeers.
Â
Towson was picked to finish fourth in the nine-team CAA this season. Â Emily Jarome and Silvia Grassini were named Preseason All-CAA Honorable Mentions.
