SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – Senior Haylee Gasser (Mission Viejo, Calif.) erupted for a career-high 17 kills, but the Seton Hall women's volleyball team fell to Northeastern, 3-1 (17-25, 26-24, 12-25, 17-25), in the Seton Hall Classic finale on Saturday.
Â
Amid Gasser's monster offensive performance, she recorded her first career double-double, totaling 11 digs to go with four blocks. Freshman Grace Rosenberg (Lido Beach, N.Y.) also tallied her first career double-double, recording a match-high 35 assists to go with 12 digs.
Â
SET 1:
The early moments of set one were close, and an ace by Elizabeth Sottung (Westfield, N.J.) put Seton Hall on top, 10-8, and sent Northeastern to a timeout. Out of the break however, the Huskies scored five straight to take the lead, and never trailed again. They methodically grew the lead to as many as nine points, and won, 25-17.
Â
SET 2:
Trailing 10-8 in the second set, Northeastern went on a 7-1 run to grab a 15-11 lead. The Pirates however, roared back with a 6-1 run of their own to reclaim a 17-16 advantage. From there, the score was tied five more times until a pair of Husky errors put The Hall in front, 23-21. That's when Gasser took control, scoring the final three Pirate points on kills, and lifting the team to a 26-24 set two win. Gasser had nine kills in the second set alone.
Â
SET 3:
The Pirates couldn't keep the momentum going however, and Northeastern took control of the third set from the start. The Huskies used a 9-2 run to take an early 11-4 lead. A Northeastern bad set allowed The Hall to cut their deficit to 13-8, but the Huskies closed the set with a 12-4 burst.
Â
SET 4:
With the score tied at six, Northeastern scored four straight points to assume control. A kill by Amanda Rachwal (Bethlehem, Pa.) cut The Hall's deficit to 11-9, but the Huskies responded with an 8-2 run to take a commanding 19-11 advantage. Northeastern went on to win the final set, 25-17.
