
Johnson Shines, But Pirates Fall at No. 15 DePaul

CHICAGO – Senior Barbara Johnson (Toronto, Ontario) collected her first career double-double, but the Seton Hall women's basketball team fell to No. 15 DePaul, 85-68, in Chicago on Friday.

Johnson scored a team-high 17 points on an efficient 7-for-11 shooting from the field. She also collected a career-high 10 rebounds to go with two assists and two steals.

Senior Alexis Lewis (Wilkes-Barre, Pa.) and junior Desiree Elmore (Hartford, Conn.) also reached double-figures in scoring. Lewis had 12 points on four made three-pointers, while Elmore notched 11 points.

The Story:
The Pirates charged out of the gate with an offensive flurry in the first quarter. Leading 10-8 early, The Hall went on an 8-2 run to grab an 18-10 advantage at media break. DePaul however, responded with a 9-2 run of their own to cut The Hall's lead to one.Â

With the score tied at 22 after one quarter, DePaul opened the second period with a 13-3 run to grab a 35-25 lead with 5:46 left in the first half. Down eight, Elmore completed a three-point play with only four seconds to go before the break to send The Hall into halftime down only five, 46-41.

Seton Hall continued to remain close throughout most of the third quarter, and a layup by Shadeen Samuels (Ossining, N.Y.) cut the Pirates' deficit to seven points, 66-59, with only 42 seconds left in the period. As the game went into the fourth however, the Blue Demons went on a 10-0 run to break the game open. A layup by DePaul's Lexi Held gave them a commanding 76-59 advantage with 6:19 left in the game. The Hall was able to cut its deficit to 10 points with 4:19 to go, but couldn't get closer.
