Â
St. John's shot 62.0% from the field for the game, including a 72.7% clip in a game-defining third quarter that saw its lead grow to as many as 24 points. Samuels finished with game-highs of 24 points and 12 rebounds, including nine offensive rebounds. She also had three blocks and two steals. Lewis tallied 16 points and a season-high 10 rebounds.
Â
St. John's opened the second half with a 9-0 run, holding the Pirates scoreless for the first 3:23 of the third period. Samuels scored on a fast break to cut the Pirates' deficit to 15 points, 49-34, but the Red Storm responded with another 9-0 burst to grab its largest lead of the game, 58-34 with 3:46 left in the third quarter.
Â
Trailing by 22 entering the fourth quarter, the resilient Pirates went on an incredible 16-0 run, and a three-pointer by Lewis cut The Hall's deficit to only six points, 63-57, with 6:57 left in the game. Two minutes later, with the Pirates trailing by only seven, St. John's Alissa Alston hit a three-pointer from the St. John's coaching box to beat an expiring shot clock. From there, the Hall couldn't get closer than nine points.

Junior Desiree Elmore (Hartford, Conn.) scored a team-high 21 points and the Pirates led wire-to-wire in a convincing 79-60 victory over Georgetown on Jan. 5 at historic Walsh Gymnasium.
Â
Elmore came off the bench to tally 21 on an efficient 7-for-9 shooting from the floor. She also grabbed five rebounds in just over 20 minutes of action. Senior Shadeen Samuels and freshman Mya Jackson (Wilmington, Ohio) also reached double-figures in scoring. Samuels had 13 points to go with four rebounds and a pair of assists, while Jackson had 12 points, two steals and a team-high five assists.

SCOUTING GEORGETOWN
The Hoyas are coming off a 19-16 season, which included a 9-9 BIG EAST mark. They qualified for the WNIT, and won three games before eventually bowing out in the quarterfinals at James Madison. The Hoyas and Seton Hall split their home-and-home series with the Pirates last season.

This year, Georgetown enters its contest against Seton Hall with a 4-16 overall record. The Hoyas have lost seven straight games and are 1-8 in conference play after dropping a pair of games last weekend at Marquette and at DePaul. Georgetown's lone BIG EAST win so far this season was a nine-point victory over Providence at home on New Year's Eve.
Â
Georgetown is led by Taylor Barnes who is averaging a team-best 12.2 points per game.
