WASHINGTON, D.C. – Senior Alexis Lewis (Wilkes-Barre, Pa.) had a team-high 18 points, including 13 in the second half, as the Seton Hall women's basketball team defeated Georgetown, 61-47, at McDonough Arena on Friday.
Â
Seton Hall trailed by as many as eight points early, and was tied with Georgetown at the half, but outscored the Hoyas 21-9 in a game-changing third quarter.
Â
Lewis finished with 18 points on the strength of four made three-pointers to go with 10 rebounds for her second straight double-double. Junior Desiree Elmore (Hartford, Conn.) also registered a double-double with 10 points and a team-best 11 rebounds.

The Story:
Seton Hall started the game cold from the field, missing 10 of its first 12 shots and allowing Georgetown to grab an early 12-4 advantage. Although the Pirate defense shut down the Hoyas, their offense didn't see a significant improvement prior to halftime. A made three-pointer by freshman McKenna Hofschild (Prior Lake, Minn.) cut The Hall's deficit to 18-17, and after five minutes of back-and-forth basketball, a three-pointer by Jasmine Smith (Houston, Texas) sent Seton Hall into the locker room tied with the Hoyas, at 25.
Â
Trailing 28-25 early in the third quarter, Seton Hall went on an 11-0 run. Desiree Elmore (Hartford, Conn.) converted on a breakaway layup to give the Pirates their first lead of the game with 8:31 left in the third quarter, and a jumper by Mya Jackson (Wilmington, Ohio) two minutes later put them on top, 36-28.
Â
Lewis connected on three-pointers in back-to-back possessions to extend The Hall's run to 17-3. Her second gave the Pirates a 44-31 lead with 2:31 left in the third quarter and sent the Hoyas to a timeout.
Â
The lead got as high as 18 points, 61-43 on a three-pointer by Shadeen Samuels (Ossining, N.Y.) with just over a minute left in the contest.
