NEW YORK – The Seton Hall women's basketball team is predicted to finish sixth in the 11-team BIG EAST Conference according to the Preseason Coaches' Poll released on Thursday.
Â
The Pirate are exactly the "middle" team of the BIG EAST standings, with five teams ranking ahead and five teams ranking below them. Returning member Connecticut was tabbed as the unanimous favorite to win the conference title this season, while defending champion DePaul was picked to finish second. Marquette, St. John's and Creighton were the other programs selected to place above The Hall. The Pirates were just one point behind Creighton for fifth place.Â
Â
In seven years under Head Coach Anthony Bozzella, the Pirates have either met or exceeded preseason expectations six times. In 2015, The Hall claimed the regular season title.
Â
Seton Hall is coming off an enormously successful season with 19 overall victories and a third-place finish in the final BIG EAST Conference standings. The Pirates were steamrolling towards their sixth post-season appearance in seven years until the COVID-19 pandemic prematurely ended the 2019-20 campaign for all teams. The Hall ended their season with wins in three of their final four games, dropping their finale by only three points to No. 18 DePaul in the BIG EAST Championship semifinals.
