Samuels Named to BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll

NEW YORK, N.Y. – Seton Hall senior Shadeen Samuels (Ossining, N.Y.) was named to the BIG EAST Women's Basketball Weekly Honor Roll on Monday.

It was the second straight week she's earned the honor roll recognition and the third week this season.

Samuels was instrumental in the Pirates undefeated weekend. The BIG EAST Preseason Player of the Year had 11 points, seven rebounds, four assists, four steals and two blocks in a performance that filled the stat sheet in a victory over Georgetown on Friday. On Sunday, she erupted for a season-high 25 points on an efficient 10-for-13 shooting to go with seven rebounds. Down three with 49 seconds left, Samuels calmly sank a pair of free-throws to cut the deficit to one. Then, with four seconds left, and the game tied, she grabbed a rebound off a missed free-throw and scored the game-winner.

DePaul's Kelly Campbell was named BIG EAST Player of the Week, while Villanova's Maddy Siegrist earned Freshman of the Week honors. In addition to Samuels, members of the Weekly Honor Roll include Butler's Kristen Spolyar, Creighton's Olivia Elger, Marquette's Selena Lott and Villanova's Mary Gedaka.

Seton Hall will return to action on Friday, February 7 when it hosts Marquette in Walsh Gymnasium. The game will be televised nationally on FS2, and of course will be provided on the radio by 89.5 FM WSOU and wsou.net. Tip-time is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. ET.
